In November the Liberals’ Vicki Dunne claimed that 59% of young people in care had not been seen by their own caseworkers in over a year, based on Annual Review Reports for 202 young people and children.
Joy Burch is now assuring us that this is a misrepresentation of reports that weren’t intended to be used for such a cause.
Instead, case files for each young person are more accurate.
“An analysis of case files for the 2010-2011 reporting period showed that the direct contacts made with children and young people in care occurred for 739 of the 758 children and young people on orders during 2010-2011, or more than 97 per cent of cases,” Ms Burch said.
Face-to-face meetings between children and young people and their caseworker occur at least annually in 97% of cases.
