For the ACT the backlog is far worse with 43 per cent of cases still running after a year.
That is the biggest backlog of any supreme court in Australia.
The legal profession in Canberra has long sought a fifth justice for the ACT Supreme Court to address the court delays.
But so far the ACT Government has refused that request.
The report also shows Canberra’s jail is one of the most violent in Australia, with the highest level of prisoner-on-prisoner assaults in the country.
The finding comes in the wake of a vicious assault on a convicted paedophile in the jail on Sunday, and a series of other assaults that have left inmates seriously injured and hospitalised.
The report also found over 40 per cent of prisoners are sent back to prison within two years of being released.
However the Alexander Maconochie Centre has performed well in some areas when compared with other state and territory prisons.
It has the highest number of prisoners studying and the second highest number in employment.
But the AMC remains the most expensive jail to run at a cost of almost $500 per prisoner per day, more than 60 per cent above the national average.
