ACT Policing is investigating an arson attack in which three vehicles were set alight in a Kambah car park overnight (Monday June 27).
About 3.00am police attended a car park on Ashby Circuit, Kambah, in response to vehicles on fire at that location. ACT Fire Brigade (ACTFB) was in attendance and extinguished the vehicles on fire, two of which were completely destroyed and a third believed to be a write off.
Approximately eight other vehicles in the car park had also been broken into. Fire damage to the vehicles is believed to be in excess of $60,000.
In a separate incident, police pursued a vehicle through southside suburbs after receiving a call from a couple in Torrens who were woken to the sound of their vehicle being broken into in Mackay Crescent. The couple saw a red hatchback drive away from outside their house shortly after they were woken. Police also received a number of other calls in relation to vehicle break-ins in Torrens and suspected the occupants of the red hatchback to be involved.
Police pursued a vehicle matching this description through Torrens, Phillip and Mawson, but lost sight of the vehicle at the intersection of Hodgeman Street and Shackleton Circuit in Mawson.
Police are continuing to make inquiries into the vehicle fires and break-ins and would ask anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously in the suburbs of Kambah and Torrens to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
