A 25-year-old Kambah man will face ACT Magistrates Court after being arrested for a vehicle fire in Kambah earlier today (Saturday, August 17).

A white Nissan Pulsar had been parked on the side of Drakeford Drive after being involved in a collision.

About 9.50am this morning, witnesses observed a male pacing around the vehicle, and throwing bottles inside. Smoke was seen emanating from the back of the car.

The car quickly engulfed in flames. Witnesses observed the man walk in the direction of Harrington Circuit.

Police attended, located and arrested the man matching the description given by witnesses.

He was transported to the ACT Watch House, where he was charged with arson.

Any witnesses to the incident who have not already spoken to police are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

I drove past that bloke at about 9.40 am, just taken my grandkids to the swim school around the corner; and yes he was behaving as if he has had a hx of substance abuse; hadn’t lit the car up by then; and agree with the last two comments

Probably a mental illness issue. The lefties have a lot to answer for: there was a time when lunatics were shut away in places where they didn’t endanger the rest of us and couldn’t get themselves into trouble.

Whaaa?? I thought it was the Economic Rationalists who thought the institutions were costing too much.

Now, thanks to the lefties, the lunatics are on our streets, many homeless, getting in trouble with the law and ending up in gaol. So instead of the funny farm, they end up in a cell. How does that help anybody? Something like 30% of prisoners are lunatics.

And the gold medal for baseless assumptions goes to…

Let me guess, you’re Ray Hadley’s biggest fan.

Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire!

Total deads### or someone trying to guarantee the car was a write off?

it was a mid 80s pulsar. A flat tyre would guarantee it was a write-off

…’tis Kambah.

How Canberran

So I wonder what the deal is here? The torch man was involved in the collision, and in a fit of rage lit up the car? I could almost…almost…understand how that could happen.

Or perhaps it was just a bloke doing what any normal bloke would do on a nice Saturday morning. ie wander around seeking to derive perverted pleasure by inflicting pointless destruction on other people’s property.

Good job, the Plod. And the witness.

Well, that appears to refute my “air conditioning was on too high” theory.

Idle hands…
