Kangaroo Cull - Woolworths, isle 4

According to a recent decision by Woolworths head office, no one in Australia eats Kanga Bangas.. so there is no longer any point putting them on the shelves.

Because of this decision, I have had a whinge at the Woolworths butcher, posted a rant on the Woolworths complaints page.. and even considered calling the Today Tonight to tell them how unastrayn it is, but alas, I am still without the sweet smell of half charred coat of arms stinking out my house.

Can someone please tell me where I can source some (lean) Kanga Bangas in Canberra (regularly and reliably) so I can get some excitement back into my life!

Thanks.

+1

As an aside – their bacon, OMG, tastes like bacon! Awesome stuff!

i know for a fact that coles curtin does as i sold them today.

It is possible that Woolworths is going to do something with branding or supply but the kangaroo industry is not like chicken farming. As far as I know the two main processors are Macro meats (from SA and the current supplier) and Southern Game (Sydney). Both are busy enough with their export businesses that I don’t think they would be interested in producing a house brand for Woolies.

I’ve seen the kangabangas at Supabarn in the Canberra Centre.

What’s that skip? Woolies are a bunch’o’arsehats?

would have thunked skip would be singing woolies’ praises, in the circumstances… 🙂

I believe I may have uncovered a conspiracy of a grand scale.

The product range that Woolworths used to sell was this:

My guess is we will soon see some Woolworths brand shrink wrapped kanga re-emerge on the shelves.. much like the Woolworths Macro *cough* packaging looks nothing like Lilydale, I don’t know what you’re talking about *cough* chicken.

Conspiracies aside, I carried out a covert mission to Coles last night and recovered some kanga bangas from the weird-meats-people-eat section. Thanks for the heads up, although in hindsight it seems like a pretty obvious place to go when Woolworths fails.

The raspberries are beautiful at Woolworths at the moment…Like little kangaroo foetuses climbing into a plastic pouch, but tastier.

Don’t you mean: ‘Can someone please tell me where I can *sauce* some (lean) Kanga Bangas in Canberra…’

Hahaha! 🙂

Thought police i muck up at times as I type without looking at the keyboard.

There’s plenty of room for all God’s creatures. Right next to the sauce and 3 veg!

“Kaleen IGA often has them – they also keep stock of the roo steaks because I asked them too! The manager, Chris, is very, very helpful. I have directly influenced stocked items in this way several times over the years.

Try that at Coles or Woolies and see how far you get!”

Ah not the ‘new’ look Coles – I asked them to stock about 4-5 particular products didn’t shop for a few weeks and then there they where! As long as they can order them they will do their best to get the stock in!

On the 30th of March for one night only you will be able to get kangaroo doner kebabs at CCAS Gorman house. Details will follow as a separate thread tomorrow.

Go to the Fyshwick Markets. I can’t recall the name of the store but one of the butchers there has Kangaroo meat sitting along with Crocodile, bunny and Duck.

I asked him if he had any snake last week, he said not yet.

+1 for the butcher between the fruit markets in the corner at Fyshwick.

Not sure if troll, or…

Yet I saw rabbit the other day in woolies. The range of turkey products is getting bigger too.

Coles, I also suggest that you Boycott Woolworths, if they won’t stock something customers are asking for they are asking their ‘customers’ to shop elsewhere!

I wish it were that easy…

Although I will likely end up at Coles after the above recommendations.. I come from a Woolworths family, Mrs Lazy I comes from a Coles family. For many years I have battled to make sure that Woolworths is the primary mega-conglomo-mart of choice. Stepping foot into Coles will undermine years of hard work and likely lead to an admission from me that I was ‘wrong’, something every male dreads.

Me no fry: The stock started drying up about 3-4 weeks ago. I have checked three Woolworths (two south side, one north side) and they all had/have varying stock levels remaining but the bangas were the first casualty. The Woolworths butcher (meat section boss) said the line had been removed due to poor sales nationally although it was one of the best sellers locally (you heard the scoop here first!)

They have now filled the shelf space with yet another variety of ‘spoon fed, shampooed and regularly massaged in an free range pen before blissfully crossing over’ chicken.

Coles, I also suggest that you Boycott Woolworths, if they won’t stock something customers are asking for they are asking their ‘customers’ to shop elsewhere!

Another vote for Coles.

I too have fired off an email to Woolworths registering my disgust.

Give him a break, he went to a public school.

Damn!, I only noticed the typo when it hit the front page..too late!.. what i’d give for an extra ‘a’ right now!,

Johnboy didn’t even attempt to save me from the shame. 🙁

I will now go and eat my kanga bangas in the corner cradling my Speak ‘n’ Spell.

Thanks for the info everyone!

The side of most major Canberra roads…might have to do a bit of prepping yourself though.

Coles… bought it there many a time.

I’m pretty sure Coles still have them. The Poultry and Game shop at Fyshwick Markets have them as well although they are sourced (sauced?) from a different provider than the Coles and Woolies ones which come from Macbro Meats.

Try Ecomeats at the Belconnen Markets for a bunch of roo products. This includes thin roo sausages (which are good) as well as vac-packed cuts like roo fillet. My personal roo cooking preference is fillet, cleaned up and dried, then marinate in olive oil & heaps of black pepper. Full-heat bbq, minute and a half a side, then rest for 5 minutes. Slice. Good with couscous, bit of chilli relish, green salad and a bottle of red wine.

Exactly how I like to eat it 🙂

Its unastrayn (<- lol what) mate…..

I think you should try the veal.

Waniassa Supabarn has a good supply of native fauna for you to eat. Big section in the back left corner of the meat chillers.

Jervis Bay?

How recent was this decision, do you know? Woolies down my way (far south coast) had some last week – not that that’s any use to you.

O’Connor IGA always seems to have them.

ha, complaining on the Woolworths website will earn you a whiney phone call from a 18 year old “manager” telling you you’re “wrong”.
