Chief Minister Gallagher has tweeted the end to the ludicrous and long overdue photography fee policy at the arboretum.

Now to string up the muppet who decided on it in the first place?

A good outcome.

A dumb idea in the first place. I’m fine with the idea of a hiring fee for exclusive use of a space for an event such as a wedding photography shoot or just a private party, with the fee covering costs such as a rope off and signage. But the fee as implemented was absurdly broad and ill-defined. A “learning experience”…

Good to hear the community pushed back on the grubs and succeeded.

Sanity prevails!

This is absolutely fabulous news for the people of Canberra. I am so happy to hear that this fee has been scrapped. In fact it has made my day!!

We were to have our PHOTOWALK Canberra event last Sunday but I had to cancel it due to the costs of fees being prohibitive.

Now though, PHOTOWALK Canberra will be re-sceduled for Sunday 10th at 5pm-7pm. I have checked the calendar on their website and it looks like there is no clashes. So any interested people who’d like to pop along, enjoy the ambience of the National Arboretum, create some lovely images and meet and share ideas and thoughts about photography PLEASE come along. It is FREE, and its usually heaps of fun creating with other people… and then sharing our creations in our group on Flickr…

Soooo Excited!!!

Good!

But if my experience is any guide, the policy will turn out to be something a Minister endorsed (perhaps without having bothered to read it), public servants had to enforce, and now the Minister is taking credit for reversing it.
