Katy gets the brown end of the stick

The ABC reports that The Great Man has thrown Katy Gallagher a hospital pass, making her responsible for the secret women’s business of liaising with the Greens in the Assembly.

One can only imagine all the things that Katy can promise in negotiations only to later discover there’s some special reason why it can’t be delivered.

Mr Stanhope is promising to get relevant Ministers talking to responsible Greens… just as sure as the Greens figure out who is responsible for what (unless they plan to hive-mind everything in which case they going to have a very long four years).

“I imagine … when we’re aware of the portfolio responsibilities of the individual Greens, that there will be very regular contact between individual members of the Greens with particular responsibilities and my ministers.

It was well known in the Assembly that Gallagher was a part timer. She used to just read stuff out that her department produced. Anyone can do that! Given she is on over $200k a year package that was a nice gig. She will have to show that she can actually get across details as Treasurer. She will also need to show some political skills dealing with the Greens. Let’s see if she has what it takes. She has had far too easy a run so far.

Probably has more to do with the long-standing and close friendship of Hunter and Gallagher.

I wonder if the Greens will make the minutes of these meetings public as part of their committment to open government?

Doesn’t Stanhope have some history of declaring that commitments made by his ministerial colleagues are not binding on him?

Be careful Katy!

Makes a lot of sense. Katy’s from the Left faction, which should more closely align with the Greens, yes?

In addition, Katy looks like she’s being groomed to take over when Stanhope abdicates the throne. So it makes sense that Stanhope wants her in a good position to work cooperatively with the Greens.
