You might think that a Government unable to care for children in crisis might want to stick to its knitting.

But no, Chief Minister Gallagher presumes to lecture you on how to pack your children’s lunch:

ACT Chief Minister and Minister for Health, Katy Gallagher, is encouraging Canberrans to support environmental sustainability and good nutrition by taking part in National Nude Food Day tomorrow.

Nude Food Day is the cornerstone of National Nutrition Week (16-22 October). The day aims to generate awareness on the importance of good nutrition in schools and workplaces, while minimising waste through a reduction in food packaging.

“Nude Food Day is a great opportunity for schools, groups and workplaces to focus on healthy eating, while being mindful of the health of our planet and doing away with unnecessary packaging,” the Chief Minister said.

If your life is so devoid of meaning as to have time to pay attention to this stuff then there’s a website to educate you.

The so-called “nude food day” merely seems like a not very well concealed effort to sell people more plastic food containers. But I just may be being cynical…

My life isn’t so devoid of meaning to pay attention to badly targeted marketing ploys such as this BUT I have to say (as a parent sending their child to kindy for the first time) that preparing school lunches every morning totally sucks. If child care centres can supply hot and healthy meals, then so should schools. Without the ability to heat food up, lunch choices are severely limited, and the average supermarket lunch box foods may as well be flavoured cardboard. I am dreading doing years of this!

Surely there’s only a couple more years before your kids can pack their own lunch? Also, there’s plenty of storage options out there that keep food hot til lunch time that aren’t to tricky for little ones to open. Vegemite sandwich and two pieces of fruit served me very well through my schooling years!

As you buy a $10 lunch each day (and review such!) [http://the-riotact.com/roti-house-lunch-box-10-lunch-review/56884], you probably don’t need to look into the website on packing your own, kid or not! 🙂

Mollie I agree that packing school lunches day after day for 12+ years does suck. On the upside though. most children are creatures of habit and once you’ve found something they like you can generally stick with it for quite a while.
Also most schools do have canteens which sell decent food, including hot food.

When I was about 7, my mum got sick of me saying I didn’t like what she packed, and told me to do it myself.
