Katy promises more for elective surgery even though everything was fine

Team Katy is throwing another bucket of cash at the hospital despite telling us for years they were funding it adequately:

If re-elected, ACT Labor will invest $80 million to meet the growing demand for elective surgery.

Our commitment will deliver 5,000 more operations over the next four years. This includes a commitment to provide 30 more Canberrans with cochlear implants.

ACT Labor will also make available $2 million in ‘reward’ funding for hospitals who meet their targets ahead of schedule.

This is on top of the 45,000 operations we already planned to provide making a total of 50,000 operations over the next four years.

Glen,

Speaking with a Labor candidate on the weekend, he advised me that one (he didn’t name whom) of the Pirate Party candidates is a public servant. No big surprises there. However, that public servant has apparently not resigned their position, meaning that if they won a seat on October 20th, they would be unable to take the seat, by law.

Any truth to this?

Well no surprise here given waiting times for elective surgery has progressively increased in recent years due to insufficient funding and resources.

Make things progressively worse so that you have an announcable to spend money to fix it if elected? (and run a campaign to prevent improvements if in opposition?)

Shouldn’t the incumbent government run a campaign of “we’ve done so many good things over our past few terms, let us keep on doing good work”, instead of “we’ve had three terms to get things right, but here is a list of things we failed at and we pinky swear to do better”?

The Liberals don’t offer a message of hope as an alternative, just a campaign of negativity.

Pirate Party ACT is a party with a limited scope, but that is sorely needed for the sake of democracy.
Freedom of information is critical to having a transparent, accountable government.
If performance data from the hospital was more freely available, we may have been able to detect the emergency room data fiddling without the need for a whistle blower.
We could more easily detect deficiencies and address them without needing an election for some action.

We will have SUPER HOSPITALS 🙂

Are there any offers from the other runners on this? Anyone else promising to do something more? Anyone? …

Talk about slow learning, Katy. Name 12,000 things that happened last time you tied a few million $$$ to hospital performance?

Goodbye Katy, I won’t miss you.
