Chief Minister Gallagher is pandering to the non-pokie based gaming sector too with a “study” promise and the intriguing “Horsefest”!

If re-elected in 2012, ACT Labor will invest $250,000 to investigate the co-location of harness, thoroughbred and greyhound racing at a single site.

ACT Labor will also commit one-off funding of $100,000 to support the ACT equine sector to establish an annual ‘Horsefest’ event in Canberra.

Expect to see apartments go up very fast in Mitchell if the study goes anywhere.

UPDATE: Apropos of this Joy Burch’s office has sent in the above photograph with this note:

Joy with Canberra Harness Racing Club chief executive Greg Nugent at EPIC. Forgot the horse’s name, sorry.

Mmmm – horses. Those things taste great, but you have to cook them slowly.

I like horses, but couldn’t eat a whole one.

That’s why god developed ponies. Portion control. Ask for a Shetland panettone or at least a burro-eato.

There’s a local expo, Equinex, that ran at EPIC for a couple of years (then had 2 years off) but the organisers are bringing it back in 2013 with an expanded format for more of a ‘festival’ format with a strong event program. I know the organisers haven’t asked for, or received, any government funding to date so will be interesting what this ‘funding’ of ‘horsefest’ will do to a small private-sector company.

Then again, if it’s like most Labor election promises it’ll never happen… or it’ll fund one horse for a day before a study determins they should expand the format just in time for the next election 😛

Neigh but why eat me when you can ride me….said Mr Ed!

The horse is probably thinking, “Birch; aren’t you that idiot that makes Gallagher look competent?”….

Ah yes that would be Rose between the Thorns!

Relocation of the dishlickers from Symonstown to Canberra Racecourse would see a sizeable chunk of real estate become available. Wonder what it’s zoned for?

The horse in that photo is looking a little worried. Perhaps he thinks these two are part of the new generation of jockeys. Or drivers, even. (If that’s what you call them in harness racing.)

Run boy, run!

Wait, which one is Katy?

Horsenats???
