Chief Minister Katy Gallagher is celebrating the release of 2011’s report on the implementation of the Canberra Plan:

In releasing the annual report, the third since the The Canberra Plan was first released in 2008, the Chief Minister noted that the year was again one of significant achievements. These included:

— At 31 March 2011, the ACT recorded the best ever result since ACT Health began reporting the measure in 2003, for the number of people on the elective surgery waiting list with waiting times greater than 12 months;

— additional funding of $10.3 million over four years in the 2010-11 Budget to provide additional support and services for people with disabilities;

— securing matching Commonwealth funding for the development of the Majura Parkway;

— good progress with the major works at the Canberra Hospital including the new neurosurgery suite and a Surgery Assessment and Planning Unit ;

— completion of major capital works projects such as the Gungahlin College and library;

— completion of the new Emergency Services Authority Headquarters at Fairbairn;

— the continued staged expansion of the 15 hours of pre-school to more schools, bringing the total to approximately 900 students receiving the longer pre-school hours;

— Floriade 2010 having its most successful year ever, achieving a record attendance of 471,979 contributing $26.9 million to the ACT economy; and

— ongoing strong progress in planning for Canberra’s 2013 Centenary and the development of
the National Arboretum Canberra.

Is that figure for Floriade correct?? Are they really saying that bringing in $5.70 into the economy per person an achievement??

You possibly have to read into that. The figure for floriade no doubt includes repeat visitors, so assume people visit floriade an average of 2 times while its on, that means ~200k people. The actual figure is $57 per person per visit, which would be closer to about $200 per person. That is also assuming that all of those 400k visitors are from outside the ACT and wouldnt have visited if not for this event.

Is that figure for Floriade correct?? Are they really saying that bringing in $5.70 into the economy per person an achievement??
