Keizo Ushio's cookie cutter fired up on Northbourne. New public art

Adamthebastard has captured the latest public art to have the plastic sheets removed around Civic.

On the intersection of London Circuit and Northbourne Avenue there now stands Keizo Ushio’s “dream lens for the future”, which seems to be falling into the dreary sub-type of Canberra public art I like to think of as “circles placed square in the middle of an avenue framing nothing in particular”.

This is less a criticism of the art than the staid way they get positioned.

Here are the details for those who are interested.

Kazza The Blank One also saw the piece and it turns out she’s a bit of an aficionado of Keizo Ushio’s work.

For a more daring use of his work in space here’s one she took of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Kobe back in 2009.

But if you want to really see how Keizo’s been working to a theme check out his image gallery.

If only they could position it near the owl….

On the strip down near the entrance to the Belco Markets should just about do it…

They’ve already got a giant wire cod.

I really like the cod. I think the gubmint should buy it back.

Is there going to be a prize for the first person to punt a football through it?

Donuts, is there anything they can’t do

Seems to be framing Parliament House, just. Better than framing the owl, as others have mentioned.

Has anyone else seen the new art on Flemington (as you’re heading north)? Must get a picture of it, but looks like a bobble headed scarecrow.

Someone get pic of that horrendous looking troll. Its grotesque.

I tried googling around for a pic but theres nothing up yet so I might snap one on the way home this afternoon and email it to Johnboy.

As for the donut, Friday/Saturday night shenanigans will ensue.

Derivative.

http://www.etsy.com/listing/64324221/water-planet-with-copper-moon-adjustable … and this guy can make earrings to match!

The uni students and other drunks are going to have fun with this.

Dear god, what cack!

I think it looks kinda nice (in the photo, haven’t seen it yet), but why get it made from Japanese Granite? While I’m sure they have very nice granite, it is not something we have a shortage of in the ACT.

So will Brenda, Kelly and Dylan be hanging around at thie Peach Pit too?

Not bad! But where is it – London Circuit and Alinga Street do not intersect??

I don’t think anything vaguely yonic will be allowed near that owl for a very long time.

Well the Sunshine coast has its “Big Pineapple”, Goulburn has the “Big Merino” , the “Big Banana” in Coffs Harbour, etc, etc, so why shouldn’t Canberra have the “Big Donut”!!!!!
Seriously though, what other monstrosities are ACT Government going to spend the taxpayers hard earned dollars on?

If only they could position it near the owl….
