The top 4 stories on ABC online this morning are all environment and weather related.

The continuation of the drought with poor spring rain in September means we are headed for a severe bushfire season this summer, with the opposition saying fire fighters are under-prepared.

However the drought and warm weather doesn’t seem to have headed south, with reports of a decent ski season which has been extended for another week.

Rain stats for Canberra in September:
total this month 14.6
long-term average 53.4mm

Shape of things to come, and what’s been the past 6 years.

ABC News website was reporting last week that the CSIRO is predicting a “300% in fire danger”. Sorry I can’t find a link.

Every year we’re in for severe bushfire alerts. Its a dry continent, tell me something new.

Here’s a link for everybody’s bookmarks – http://www.conder-act.com/weather/StormVue_Frame.html

Check it out whenever it’s getting cloudy.

“Seems every time you hear of a big fire event, its started deliberately”

Well, except for the Canberra fires. That really was lightning… unless you consider it deliberately lit by god or mother nature.

Does anyone know the stats of naturally occuring fire instances(started by lightning etc) vs deliberately lit fires?

Fear mongering sells news. That’s why so many stories are all about how we’re soooooo screwed for so many reasons.
