Back on 24 October we ran BethiePrice’s photo (above) of the new Kings Avenue Overpass lit up for the Queen in red, white, and blue.

Today the NCA informs us that, in honour of President Obama’s visit the overpass will light up in… wait for it… red, white, and blue.

The effort will no doubt be immense, but fear not, there will be a difference!

Mr Rake said the lighting display will differ from the one used for the recent visit of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh.

“Rather than stripes of colour as used for the British royal visit, the LED lighting system will cycle through the colours in 30 second intervals,” Mr Rake said.

In other exciting news they’re planning to light the bridge up for danish tourists.

Extra effort will have to be made to turn off the blue. Exciting.

Other colours are promised for future official visits.

I look forward to the lighting displays on offer when we have official visits from Cambodia, Chile, Cuba, The Czech Republic, The Dominican Republic, The Faröes, France (and a bunch of French colonies), Iceland, Laos, Liberia, Luxemborg, The Netherlands, Nepal, NZ, North Korea, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Russia, Samoa, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Taiwan and Thailand.

Luxembourg uses a pale blue, so that will make a nice change 🙂

If that doesn’t impress him, nothing will.

Vive la france!

In future, I think official visits from foreign dignitaries should be timed to ensure that we don’t have to use the same colours on the bridge twice in a row!

BTW I still think it’s an underpass 😛
