Kings Cross to Braddon. How I lost my sleep-in.

At 7.17am this morning, I was lazing in bed, scrolling at the morning news on my iPhone, enjoying the warmth of my doona – In any case, just doing my thang.

Out of no-where, as is usually the case, comes the sound that pierces my ear drums.

‘Evacuate the building – whooooo woooo’.

The f***in fire alarm is going off (on?) again. Yeah, cheers for that.

I’d be more surprised if the fire alarm doesn’t go off quite frankly. It’s been like a dozen or more times already this past month. This is obviously a serious issue, as residents are becoming complacent about the fire and emergency evacuation procedures – Let’s hope we don’t have some crazy ass fire . No, burnt Rye toast does not count.

Look here Mode 3 Body Corporate. I’ve been living in the middle of the Cross (Darlinghurst Road, Sydney) for years. I’ll admit I’m used to living in close quarters with people and their sex noises, crazy muther f***in arguments, junkies going nuts and even the ‘bridge n tunnel’ party crowd on weekends.

The Mode 3 constant fire alarms are super noisy, inconvenient and making me madddddddddd…

Worse still. The emotional toll my on my neighbours, who are otherwise subjected to the joyous experience at seeing me first thing in the a.m. I’m all uncontained braless boobs, morning breath, knotty birds nest hair.

I’ll at least say sorry to the building residents of mode 3 who I’m becoming pretttty up close and personal with. I guess you could say we are all becoming more than just friends on the pavement outside – (nearly every morning.) Don’t sue me for emotional distress – although, I’d recommend that maybe Mode 3 Body Corporate might consider their legal responsibilities, and possibly keep one eye open for legal action headed their way. Just sayin.

So yeah, like after a cranky round of emails to the Body Corporate this morning, nothing has been resolved, but at least I’ve had my rant, I guess.

Here it is again. ^

Give me loud, love making noises any day.

Love you Braddon, (Brads? What’s the lingo?) even though you’re making me a ranty Canberran.

*Sorry, not sorry.

So the Fire Brigade will fine the building if the alarm is for defective equipment which you have previously been told to fix, or it the alarm was deliberate/maliciously set off. They won’t fine you if it is a false alarm set off by normally functioning equipment.

Anyhoo, it’s always a bit of fine tuning with new buildings to get the sensitivity of the fire safety system set properly, and often it does start out far too sensitive. But, who ever has the contract with the building to check and maintain the safety systems should be coming in and adjusting it.

Meh, boobs are still boobs 🙂

Here’s hoping Mighty Joe gets his wish and is confronted by uncontained braless man-boobs.

These fire alarms and evacuation thingies are a pain in the arse. I remember we were all evacuated from Tuggers pool last year and I had to go home without having a shower. On another occasion Woden Plaza was evacuated just as I was about to buy something. I have some good advice for these alarms. Just ignore them. And if some bully with a construction helmet on tells you to leave – don’t. Just tell him to get stuffed.

Are we sure paragraph eight isn’t the reason for all the alarms

I have never lived in an apartment building in Canberra where this wasn’t a problem. Dooring Street was the worst. Fire alarm one night, 17 cars stolen from secure underground parking the next. I hope it’s better now because that building restored my faith in faulty engineers and organised crime buying police.

My understanding is ACT Fire Brigade invoices the responsible party for false call outs, including when the detection equipment is defective. I know that’s been an issue at the student ressies where students have been billed for it. You’d think the body corporate and/or the monitoring provider would be working to fix it, they’re the ones likely to be invoiced.

sounds like they installed the sensors too close to the kitchen areas if it is breakfast time! we find this when we holiday in some units in Manly – usually caused by some idiot not knowing when their toast/BBQ/stirfry etc is too hot or burning.

I would ensure your body corporate has some sort of fine in place for repeat offenders and issues a letter to residents instructing them on curteous cooking arrangements. You can’t prevent accidents, but people need to be more responsible.

+1 – Not sure about the ACT but pretty sure Fire Brigades in some jurisdictions fine body corporates for repeated and unnecessary call outs.

Fired up! Ready to go!

@taninaus Quite possibly, although the alarms go on/off during the day, as well as at night. Maybe the alarms are too sensitive. Not unlike me first thing in the morning :/
