ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an incident earlier this morning (Friday, June 17) at Oaks Estate when a taxi driver was assaulted and robbed.
Around 2.30am, the driver picked up six passengers – four males and two females – from an address in Kingston and conveyed them to George Street, in Oaks Estate, where they arrived around 15-20 minutes later.
After the passengers got out of the vehicle, two males – both aged in their late teens – became involved in an altercation with the driver.
The 26-year-old driver from Queanbeyan was then punched several times by one of the offenders and a sum of cash was stolen. The offenders were last seen heading into a nearby vacant block on foot. Five of the group were aged in their late teens, and the remaining male was aged between 45-50 years.
ACT Policing General Duties officers and NSW Police conducted extensive sweeps of the area in the hours following the incident and Woden Crime detectives are continuing their investigations.
Anyone who may seen the incident, or the group of people in the Oaks Estate area in the early hours of this morning, or could provide any information which could assist the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
