I’m after some advice / suggestions on a kitchen makeover and carpeting three of our bedrooms.

The background is we are looking at selling in two to three years time and not looking to spend lots just a bit to make it comfortable for us now and to look nice for the sale.
renovations.

Carpet:

  • Three bedrooms all approximately 4.5m by 5m.
  • We have a little one and animals so party proof?
  • Current flooring is floorboards.
  • Doors have been shaved previously so will fit new addition.
  • Happy to move everything out of the room so all they need to do is lay the carpet.

Kitchen:

  • Structurally fine
  • We currently have all new appliances
  • Need new bench tops or cover, has anyone heard of granite transformation? Or have any other solutions.
  • Need new cupboard doors
  • Need new panels (previous laminate)
  • No splash back needed.

It would be great if everyone could share their stories (good and bad) or unique solutions (including doing it yourself).

I recently got my kitchen done too. We wanted to go for the marble look for the kitchen tops. Cupboard doors were also installed. Like above the already existing ones, coz we needed more storage. We were quite hesitant at first because we had a few bad experiences in the past. But after a few searches here and there, we got to Transition homes Canberra. Great blokes. Very friendly.

Yes!! Transition homes were great! My vote defs goes for them.

Hi Hank,
I have recently had a facelift done to my kitchen by The Kitchen Company. They were fantastic! I chose gloss doors and a Caesarstone bench and was suprised at the price. It looks like a brand new kitchen and evryone comments about how expensive it looks. I would highly recommend them.

I am also looking for someone to redo my kitchen, but I am after a wall removed to open up my kitchen and a glass sliding door removed and partially filled with a window.

Does anyone have any recommendations

Solution-dyed nylon for the carpets. Hasn’t quite lived up to its “impossible to stain” sales pitch but we’ve found it pretty cost effective (i.e. very cheap and not too nasty). Sure to be the first thing they recommend at any carpet shop.

Hi Hank,

We purchased a house that has had the kitchen benchtops and laundry benchtops done by Granite Transformations. We had no idea at the time that that was who had done the work but they looked pretty good to us but they could do with a clean to bring them back to a better finish I think.

We had Granite Transformations come out the other week and give us a quote on updating the cupboard doors and do some remodeling. Not sure we will use them but the pricing wasn’t too bad.

Good luck with you reno’s I hope it works out for you cause there are a lot of dodgy companies around Canberra that is for sure.

Regarding the kitchen aspect of your query. We recently had ours done – complete remodel and upgrade with walls knocked out by Stylized Interiors. Here’s a tip…don’t use them. Whilst we did get our kitchen in the end and it was a fair job, it was like pulling teeth. We gave up on some things just to call it a day and at certain points I thought I would have to sack them and get someone else in to finish it. The whole thing took about three months.

It’s not nice to have to pass on bad news about services you have received or rather not received, but if it helps someone else, then so be it.
