Kitten Rescue

At the risk of opening up the debate about whether cats are good or evil, I would like to thank the ACT firies who came out and got a puny little kitten out of the drain. I was at a loss as to who to call on when I heard the kitten crying, so was delighted when they turned up to help me (especially as it meant I didn’t have to pop into the drains in my suede stilettos).

The whole situation could have been prevented, however, if TAMS would come and trap the feral cats who haunt the Woden storm water drains. As long as we have feral or stray cats which are not desexed roaming around, we will continue to see litters of unwanted kittens like the little one the firemen saved today.

YAAAAAAAY!

Oh I’m very happy!

I reckon he is a couple of days old as umbilical cord was still attached.

Hey, what happened to the kitten? Was it sent to the cat pound? Did you adopt it? And how big or small was it?
Better still, got pictures of any of this event or the kitten? I’m not doubting you, I’m just bored and want to see this rescue in all its glory.

Amen to that weezie.

The mnemonic I use for “i-e” spelling is “i before e, except after c, where the sound rhymes with KEY”. Hasn’t steered me wrong yet. In English.

Too funny. A man would have no better chance of getting the cat that I had. We needed the equipment to remove the lid of the drain and get down into it – which the firies had. Otherwise don’t you think I would have gone down and got the kitten out myself? If they had emergencies to go to, I am sure they would have attended to those and not the kitten. As it was, they obviously had time to help out and did so. That was nice of them and most unexpected. Nobody was done out of any service because of this brief exercise in humanity, Captain Right Arsehole Altogether Feckwit.

Because if you had a man, he’d have rescued the stupid cat and you’d not have needed to waste the time of EMERGENCY services personnel!

deezagood, as for education, ‘animals’ is the correct spelling and as for me having a good education, I would hazard it’s better than the ‘eduction’ you received!

Obviously typos, not poor spelling – as opposed to your frequent grammatical and spelling errors and overall ignorance.

I thought it was I before E except after C except when sounded like AY as in neighbour and weigh. Just to be totally pedantic! :O

Firies do this purely as good PR but would prefer not too, it’s only because of the negative press they’ll recieve when some suede stilletto wearing single mother gets on Today Tonight complaining that the fire brigade didn’t rescue her precious tiddles (holds up dead kitten for camera, six crying children in background cradle framed portrait of tiddles, camera pans to drain where mog died).

The fact that you would call out the Fire Brigade to rescue a cat and expect even a slim possibility that they would turn up is typical of todays society where there must be a fix for everything, planet warming up? easy lets hold a conference and fix it, water running out? lets build a desal plant or ten and fix that, whales being hunted? quick, lets sponsor a bunch of whacvko’s and stop that….The fact that they are all biblical wastes of money doesn’t enter into these suede stilletto wearing idiots minds.

Next time, don’t call the firies, get one of your kids fathers to dig the corpse, I mean cat out or, heaven forbid, do it yourself!

– ‘i’ before ‘e’ except after ‘c’
– ‘too’ meaning ‘also’ or ‘excessive’, ‘to’ being the preposition I believe you meant to use
– ‘stiletto’ has one ‘l’ not two (or too, or to)
– in the context of your rant ‘todays’ should be ‘today’s’
– ‘lets’ should be ‘let’s’
– ‘whacvko’s’ assuming you mean ‘whackos’ minus the ‘v’ and the apostrophe
– as well as some interesting absence of punctuation (probably furiously typing at the keyboard in a boomer fogey rant at mach speed somewhere between 5 and 10).

As for the initial person saying they unwanted, they obviously have a bit of a fan club. natural selection and/or floods seem to look after overpopulation.

Don’t forget the odd baiting by passing cyclists….nyuk nyuk nyuk.

if anyone does a search here for “drain cats” you’ll see at least a couple of long threads.

Before last week anyway, there were in the vicinity of 12 cats. youngish and adults, and no doubt new kittens in the tunnells.

I decided to see what all the halabaloo with these cats was today. I visited the said site and spotted just 4 cats. Has the rain washed them away?

While I was there some smart ass kid on a push bike asked what I was doing, if I fed the cats? When I said yes, he said something like “you freak, why don’t you get a real job?”. Ohh, he really was a bit stupid. I may not have a job, but I am a damn fast runner. I took off affter that kid but to my amazement when I got to the foot bridge less than 20 seconds later there was no sign of him anywhere. Probably a good thing, after I caught him I’d probably have gotten in trouble for stealing his id papers.

So, how many cats are usually there?

Weeziepops is a woman, she wears stylish (probably expensive) shoes and she cares about distressed anaimals. Exactly what part of weezie’s post indicates to you that she is an ‘idiot’ single mother with children by multiple fathers? How does this post deserve your level of vitriol (you will probably have to look that word up, given your obviously very, very poor level of eduction).

This was directed towards Captain RAAF – who gives his alleged service an extremely bad name.

He was definitely stuck as the mother cat had moved the other kittens and this one seems to have been on the wrong side of a pool of water. We rang the firies, they didn’t just know…

Sorry, to be clear – we rang but honestly didn’t expect them to come. The suede stilettos were genuinely at risk.

Which, the feral cats or the people of Asia?

A little from column A, a little from column B.

Do you have a source for this interesting statement?

Yes, but it’s such a controversial issue that you will only find speculation carved into the stone of the internet.

ABC ran a few programs on it years back, I can’t remember if it was Catalyst or not.

Lots of academics will also agree, it seems that pussies have been here for ages.

Can I call the ACT Firies to ‘rescue’ the feral cat that has moved into my front yard?
It is wild as, cant catch it but has a bell and collar on it ??? Dumped?
RSPCA dont answer the phone. TAMS have a cat trap but charge $50 refundable deposit but we have to do the catching…then take the cat to the RSPCA as TAMS dont take cats.
I think the Firies option sounds way easier.
But how will i get the cat into a drain?

The whole situation could have been prevented, however, if TAMS would come and trap the feral cats who haunt the Woden storm water drains.

Blame the Government – typical – take out one family of kitties and other family will move in. The Rangers are pushed to the limits already!! How about desexing of cats by irresponsible owners…..

Well that quote didn’t work too well!

Lets try it the old fashioned way:

Could you confirm he was actually stuck – or whether he was just bleating in the way kittens do?

Actually, the ones to blame for feral cats are the people of Asia that visited a few hundred years before us whities invaded.

We may have assisted with populating the east and south coast of Australia, but they were well entrenched up north and in central Oz long before the Dutch or English got here.

Cats are evil, but kittens are not. Nice story. Did you call the firies… how did they know about the kitten?
