Knife sharpening lessons?

Wondering if there’s anywhere in ACT that offers knife sharpening lessons? …I am not even sure if that’s an odd request? I guess I am envisioning a one nighter at CIT or something.

I realise there are plenty of videos on the net, but there’s no substitute for hands on when it comes to this sort of thing.

…plus professional knife sharpening costs and arm and a leg, according to the knife shop at Woden.

There should be a huge Google map with the address and details all there but some people must not be able to view it or something because I’ve had a few people say I should put my address on the site.
Might have to go back and do it the old fashioned way, thanks for the heads up!

5 knives for $20 but if you’re serious about learning I’d be happy to give you a lesson for a couple of beers, give us a call at the shop 62318755 if your keen.

Sounds good – I’ll be in touch – I’ve heard I need to check out your jerky anyways. 🙂

Ah ha, down the very bottom in tiny white font on black background! I looked for it, too.

I might get on to them. Wanniassa is a hike but I see they carry a range of things I’m interested in.

Tharwa Valley Forge is the place for making and sharpening knives

I’ve seen (and tried to use, at a friend’s place) a really trendy glass cutting board. Real bright idea…

Those rock-hard cutting boards are the enemy of knives. I’m sticking to wood (and not that hard bamboo stuff either, normal pine). If you get into the habit of giving your knives a wipe with the steel every time you go to use them, that should keep the edge on them. Provided you’re not using a rock-hard chopping board!

Kevin Rudd might know something about it.

I’m sure that you could ask any woman as you escort her home from a Kingston pub. Just don’t walk through a park, no matter what she says!!

Yes, there is. CITACE offers a course run by a Bladesmith who can also teach you how to make knives. I’ve done it, and it’s easy once you know how. Now if I could just get mrs nifty to stop using plates as cutting boards…
