ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a road rage incident yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, August 24) which started in Greenway before ending in Civic.

Around 5.45pm yesterday, a black Lexus RX400 four wheel drive was stopped at a set of traffic lights on Drakeford Drive, Greenway when it was struck by a grey or beige coloured Land Rover Freelander four wheel drive.

The woman driving the Lexus got out of her car and approached the driver’s side of the Land Rover to exchange details.

At this time the man driving the Land Rover, described as Caucasian, aged in his mid twenties, with a solid build, short blond hair and clean shaven drove away from the collision scene, running over the woman’s foot.

The woman returned to her vehicle and continued on her way.

A short time later, while travelling along Parkes Way, the man driving the Land Rover has driven alongside the Lexus and made several threatening gestures towards the woman with a large knife.

The incident was reported to police and through a coordinated response by ACT Policing General Duties, City Beats and Specialist Response and Security officers located the Lexus on Commonwealth Avenue, with the woman unharmed.

Police conducted an extensive search for the Land Rover, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, saw either of the two vehicles around 5.45pm yesterday, or recognises the man described above to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

How did the woman get in front of the 4WD? Was she chasing him down the Parkway? Or was he waiting for her?
Parkes Way is what? 15kms away?

It’s certainly a pretty weird story. Other questions include why the woman didn’t report the incident to police back in Greenway, after first being hit by the other car, and having her foot run over? Apparently she just continued on her way? And why, after finally reporting the incident to police after seeing a knife, did it take some type of coordinated response to find the woman? It almost sounds like it wasn’t the woman involved who actually reported it, but another driver who saw what was going on, and called it in themselves. Surely if it was the woman being threatened who called police, it wouldn’t have taken this effort to find her?

I’m putting this one down to ‘sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction’.

Lexus RX400 & Land Rover Freelander

Seems like pretty expensive vehicles. A better then normal class of bogan?

I’ve had my fair share of run-ins with drivers of Lexii and I must say, they’re all a cut above the rest, or at least they think they are! Probably the 21st century equivalent of Volvo drivers!

Makes sense, everyone knows that Camry drivers are the new Volvo drivers, and Lexii are just glorified Toyotas!

I like to call them Toyota with leather seats.

Yep, just a luxury end Toyota!

It’s like a BMW that’s actually reliable, And as a bonus, you don’t have to be a dick to drive it!

Yes you do.

No Mate, that’s just your Jelousy weighing in!

To clariffy, I do not own a Lexus (or a damn soft-roader, or any 4wd for that matter) but even with an anual clock up of 60,000km to 80,000km, I have yet to se one damn BMW driven by anything other than a Dick!

I have however encountered Lexus’s that were driven by rational, and normal people.

Not saying there are no dicks in Lexus’s, but unlike a BMW, it does not seem to be a purchase requirement!

Possibly that comes down to the type of person who is willing to forgo the Reliability of your average Japanese car, in exchange for a Euro statement with a promise to make you great friends with your mechanic!

I wonder if it’s the same guy from an earlier road rage incident involving a beige Land Cruiser and an ACTION bus (Wednesday, August 17 – Hopetoun Circuit in Yarralumla)…

Either way, it seems people driving Land Cruisers have some serious issues to deal with 😛

As long as you’re wearing an enclosed flat show being run over is not as painful as it sounds.

The bigger the tyre the wider the load is spread.

This is true, I have put my foot under a few friends cars as they pulled away just to pretend that they had run me over. Quite funny.

Wait? If you are pretending that they have run over your foot, then why do you need to actually put your foot under the wheel?

Typical four wheel drive owner…………..

Does this sort of incident happen to you daily? Maybe you’re trapped in a vicious circle, where 4WDs sense your hostility and ram you, making you ever more hostile to them.

Hook, line and sinker, I’d say.

By the way, wasn’t it a land rover that rammed the bus the other day? Could be a connection.

That was a Land Cruiser, and the driver has apparently been located if the comments on that story are correct.

Good call, Conan. Having blindly swallowed the original story (even while pointing out its most basic flaw), I’m much happier with this view.
Also consistent with the plod announcing finding the Lexus (?) but not the Landy.

Seems that this emerging road rage trend contains much BS … the stories all have glaring flaws and/or omissions :-\

Some of you love a good conspiracy theory don’t you? Tin foil hats for all!

I dare say that the victim, having had her foot run over then threatened with a knife might have been a little distracted and unfortunately failed to note down the rego.

By the way, wasn’t it a land rover that rammed the bus the other day? Could be a connection.

flat shoe even…

Dare I say that it was her left foot run over, and if she kept driving-she drives automatic, no need to engage left foot, even if she’s in pain.

Spot on & deye it was only a Freelander, they are not really a 4WD. Mid size station wagon that runs on front wheel drive & only transfers the drive to rear if there is slip at the front.

drove away from the collision scene, running over the woman’s foot.
The woman returned to her vehicle and continued on her way.

snip!

with the woman unharmed.

So her foot was run over by a 4WD yet she was able to drive and was unharmed. That seems very lucky.

Wouldn’t a Land Rover running over your foot injure you? It’d have to be maybe 300-400kgs per wheel.

Pretty sure the police can tell the difference between a dent from backing into a pole and damage from being rear-ended by another car, and I’m sure it’s not uncommon for someone to be unable to take note of a licence plate when they’re under duress.

Who knows, though – as was noted elsewhere, we seldom hear the outcome of these cases so it’s difficult to assess how often these sorts of reports turn out to be bogus.

The headline should read “Stupid Woman Victim of Road Rage Fails to Note License Plate Despite Having Several Opportunities”.

Some time ago I learnt not to flash my high beams at somone when they cut you off, In my case, the sleek, new black BMW raced ahead into the distance, but had a mind flip somwhere ahead, and pulled up, waited for me to pass, and threw a full can of slol at my car…

…Missed!

However, in my case, I noted the number plate, as did my passenger, and we reported it to the police. I later got a call from that officer, to let me know the plates were a match for an old green magna, and theat a discription had been put out to the cops on the road, to try and find the BMW if they could.

So maybe she did get the plates mate, seems to me, the kind of person to ram people and wave a big knife, may also be the kind of guy to have the wrong plates on his car.

Surely noting the Landy’s rego at some point would have been trivial? Game, set, match.

(Although I suppose they would have had to have taken the Parkway to get to Parkes Way, so both may actually be correct)

Typical four wheel drive owner…………..

Jesus Tapdancing Christ, what’s with all the road raging imbeciles this week?

Incidentally, re the headline: Parkes Way, not the Parkway.

From Greenway? Pretty sure it’s the parkway.
