Has anyone else been having trouble with street lighting recently? I reckon ours in Dickson have been out for a good week now, and in the last week, I’ve seen problems on State Circle, and in Aranda too. Makes for a spooky landscape. I just gave Canberra Connect a call, and they’re looking into it, but I find it disconcerting that it’s been going on for this long now.

and while suburbs are in darkness, they have a looong avenue (over a km, easy) in the middle of nowhere fully lit, leading from teh King’s Highway to a deserted building site. Your taxes at work.

Perhaps our political light fixers should read up on the broken window theory.

May explain some of the unsociable conduct.

When the lights break, they should be replaced with LED panels.

Barney, it ain’t just a few smashed lights or poorly planned lighting design. The entire suburb is in post-apocalyptic darkness, and has been for quite some time. As was Aranda when I drove through tonight.

Shit. Tonight, HQ JOC have turned on their bloody avenue of orange lights, from the building out to their stupid roundabout. Not content with building a major facility out in whoop-whoop, which’ll mean hundreds of cars blasting out there every day, they have to burn crap loads of coal to run their lights every night, wrecking our night sky. What next?

To answer the original question : No, my area is not having a problem with street lighting. Not at all.

Street lights? In Canberra?

Plenty of street lights that get smashed a few times don’t get replaced anymore it would seem. Has been the case for YEARS. Could be a lot more lighting around long paths etc also.

Just some observations.

maybe this is the reason for the increasing street violence of late… its darker so they become bolder

Statistically, the central suburbs has a significantly older population, who are more likely to be in bed by 8pm, so they probably don’t need the light anyway!

Jesus, Katy hasn’t been put in charge of street lights as well?

it is all part of reducing our carbon footprint
