Two Gungahlin Patrol members escaped serious injury last night after a 28-year-old Nicholls man rammed his vehicle into the side of their police car.
About 11pm last night (Monday December 13) Gungahlin Patrol members responded to an incident where a male was allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Police located the vehicle of interest, a maroon Nissan Murano, in Kelleway Avenue, Nicholls. When the members approached on foot the driver accelerated directly at one of the members, narrowly missing him before leaving the area.
A short time later police located the car and attempted to stop the driver, however he again accelerated away from police in a dangerous manner. Police did not engage in a pursuit.
Police continued patrolling Nicholls and found the car again on Kelleway Avenue. Police stopped their car a short distance away from the Nissan Murano when without warning the driver accelerated heavily at the stationary police car, impacting at high speed and with significant force. The officers sustained minor injuries.
The male will be attending the ACT Magistrate’s Court today charged with a number of serious offences. Police will be opposing bail.
