Labor - Canberra's best team for the future...

… not the best team for honesty though. In fact, they’re inventing history now. ACT Labor’s latest ad aims to promote the environmental credentials of Comrade Stanhope and his team. The woman speaking in the ad says “…so it’s great how Labor have secured over half of the ACT as protected nature reserves”

Problem with this claim is at least half the ACT is covered by Namadgi National Park, which was established in 1984.* It was established long before self government and long before ACT Labor or Stanhope. Admittedly, the ad says “Labor”, not “ACT Labor” and it’s true that Labor was in power at a Federal level when Namadgi was created, but it’s still undue credit.

They’ve been set up on the verge at the beginning of the parkway in the mornings for the past couple of days, I forget the name of the labor candidate (it’s the one we haven’t heard from as an MLA for Brindabella for the past 4 years). Not sure how causing distractions in a 100kph zone in peak hour is good for anyone’s future, but then someone might accidently swerve and hit them as they stand beside the road waving.

But then the lady complaining in the CT letters today about how the libs sent her campaign material addressed to her can’t be much brighter, gee I wonder how her name and address was added to the electoral roll.

Maybe Stanjoke should declare the remaining half of the ACT as a nature reserve -it is after all a concrete jungle. Do urban ferals count as wildlife?

For a Government that is loved by the people and has achieved so much for Canberra, it is surprising that ACT Labor has to spend so much on advertising, you would think that with all the good work they would be a shoe in, just chuck the odd advert into the chronicle and bingo, back in for another 4 years.

I am perturbed by Labor’s hospital ad. The nurse (most probably an ALP Member) spruiking up Labor in what looks like a hospital ward.

If it is indeed a Canberra hospital this is a blatant case of politicising the public hospital system.

There is a feeling of desperation in ALP advertising this time around.

but how’s Andrew Barr’s form with the multiple signs with none of the ALP livery, just a green border.

Spotted a trio of these on Melrose Drive yesterday – the Labor logo was there but in black & white and very small. Isn’t his profile a bit too high to get away with pretending he’s not ALP?

it could just be to make his signs more noticble when driven past……simplest explanations probably the right one

so… the ad claims that Labor did something that Labor actually did…

Reminds me of a union (or members thereof) who decided to claim the kudos for an enterprise bargaining outcome at a certain organisation when the union had mounted a torrid ‘Hell, No’ campaign throughout until management said, ‘Fine, no deal, no pay rise, no backdating, no chance of anything for another x months’.

Have you ever heard several thousand people back-pedal in unison?! It sounds like the soundtrack LP of the Tour de France played on 33 1/3, with an accompanying intake of breath that voids a two city block radius of oxygen. And airborne insects.

I’d only just rejoined that industry after some time in the non-unionised wilderness of three-piece suit and laptop consulting, and was just on the cusp of signing back on to the union in my readopted field when they did this piece of rank stupidity.

Five years or so later I finally realised the union (that one, plus the movement, plus the people) are bigger than the decisions of a few individuals, PR types and marketers and advertisers. It took me a song to wake up to myself: http://jackmancor.com/music.html — Spanner In The Works. I think I’ve waxed lyrical about Jack here before. Top bloke. Great music.

There may or may not be a parallel in there. I’ve forgotten what we started talking about. $5 pizzas, refugees or indicator use or something. I’ve got a beauty about indicators and other road matters, but it/they’ll keep.

I also vaguely remember such a pledge (mainly because it was met with many a sarcastic response here).

Thumper, I believe Stanhope has said that he would stick round for the whole 4 year term, though I don’t have any sources to back up my vague recollection.

Don’t you know that Jon Stanhope also built Mount Ainslie, constructed Black Mountain (one half at a time), dug out the basin for Lake Burley Griffin and found enough water on his brain to fill the Lake in seven days and nights?

Ignorant and ungrateful people, why isn’t everyone boned up on these fine points of history!

But not *this* Labor….

so… the ad claims that Labor did something that Labor actually did…

I think this may have been mentioned in dispatches here before, so beat with a fresh bunch of celery if I’m repeating others’ words if I’m repeating others’ words if I’m repeating others’ words but how’s Andrew Barr’s form with the multiple signs with none of the ALP livery, just a green border.

You sneaky sonomabeech.

Has anybody noticed Labor’s new attack ad which contains the tagline “Liberals – don’t risk it”. Strange, I distinctly remember the Liberals using the line “Labor – don’t risk it” on their ads during the last federal election.

liars, liars pants on friars!
