With bitter wars being waged on numerous fronts in the local Labor Party the Canberra Times has a complex story on threats to sack the Labor Club board unless they slow down on the sale process.

Acting ACT Labor secretary Ted Quinlan has confirmed the board of the Canberra Labor Club could be sacked next Tuesday night if it continues to ignore the wishes of the party.

The political landscape could be looking very different by the time the dust settles on all this.

Life members get a say – not the rest of the 50 000 or so members.

Do members get a say in this at all? Do I get a cut of the $20 million?

CFMEU: A stench of the Underbellys:

And we want them running our gambling dens?

Go Teddy!!!!

So, according to ClubsACT the ALP themselves pushed for the no-corporate-interests or self-serving syndicates in the ACT gaming market, probably because we’re the largest spenders-per-capita in the country when it comes to our club sector (worth $2.1bil/yr in turnover), and the ALP have a 13% exposure to the gaming market alone.

If this deal goes ahead, (using FY 07-08 figures) the ALP lose their own 13% share, and give the CFMEU a 20% share of gaming licenses, 23% share by gaming revenues.

Now that the ALP national exec are weighing in, if they need to be beholden to the unions for cash, it’ll be a shitfight like no other.
