We’ve been hearing for a while about the low unemployment rate and the shortage of labour, but things must be really desperate when McDonald’s in Queanbeyan has to resort to Seek to attract staff.

Qbn Maccas (and the other fast fooderies in that strip) get hammered in winter. Lots of the snow people stop in there, for one thing. Lot of drive-through business.

apparently Queanbeyan Mcdonalds is looking for another 50 staff, so if your kids need a job send them in.

Quite right VY. Get a kid whose not trying at school. Have them flip burgers for a couple of months and you’ll soon get them on the right track. Heck, even lazy straight A rich kid students could benefit.

Nothing wrong with doing crap jobs when you’re young – makes you hungry for a bit of success.

Yep. 15 year olds (from memory) need to have official exemption from attending school before they can work full time. 14s would have to be very special circumstances.

How do Queanbeyan employers find staff? i’m not aware of any proper agencies there, just the Job Network rort-the-gov’t places.

13 or 14?

In the ACT that would be illegal

I cant uderstand why peole dont want to work at Mcdolands, I worked there through school and the start of uni, it helped me make and save money and know that I have finished uni Im buying my own house, with out help from my parents. While my mates pay other peoples morgages off in rent im building equity mate.

Maybe we need to add Chip Fryers and Burger Flippers to the MODL list and bring them in on 457 Visas

Well basically we are now using international students to do all the work we are apparently too good to do. Anyone caught a cab in Belconnen recently. Was it driven by a student studying a marsters in IT from the sub continent I bet it was.

The current generation of 15/25 year olds are all way to spoiled to ever want to get a job where they have to work.

Queanbeyan has one of the worst Maccas anywhere. Nearly every time I have been there it has been dirty, the food was crap and the service was slow.

Ditto. We thought we’d “quickly” head through their drive through to get some chips for the young fella on the way to the farm on Sunday. Ha! 20 minutes later….

Well If they had more stall maybe it would all work better, My oldest son has work in Maccas for 2 years, in which time he has moved up the “ladder” and has had heaps of paid trainning. I know that if he chooses to go to uni in another city he will be able to walk straight into a job. The Trainning and Certificates he has recieved will help me no end in his future, not to mention the responsibility he has gained by working rather than just asking me for money!

We have reached a sad place when our kids get thier first job at the age of 21/22 when they finish uni!

Zeffirelli’s are also advertising on SEEK.

When i was 16 I went for a job with Maccas in Batemans Bay.
At the interview I was basically told i was too old for the job!

They ended up hiring 13/14 year olds.

they’re all too busy consuming macca’s instead of serving..

This is surprising. I would’ve thought McDonald’s would have no trouble with their usual walk-in hiring regime. Perhaps the youth are just becoming lazy?
