Lack of post-NYE buses to Queanbeyan and Jerra?

G’day all,

Decided I’d go into Canberra City for the NYE celebrations have a few drinks and then catch the bus home. Unfortunately it looks like neither Action Buses or Deans will be running a late service out to Queanbeyan and Jerra? Pretty disappointing if this is accurate.

But back on topic, ACTion’s inability, or refusal, to run services outside the ACT is just plain stupid. It’s something they should sort out with NSW’s Cross Border Commissioner. Deane’s (QCity) is never going to be able to get its cost down to a level that will make it cheaper than driving, never mind the lack of convenience. At the very least they should allow Deane’s tickets to transfer onto ACTion. Yes it would cost $$$ but it would take cars off the road which would be a plus.

There is a logical error in every post you make, petey boy.

Glass houses and all that…

I am counting the misspelling and lack of apostrophe in Deane’s, even though they no longer officially exist, having been bought by CabCharge.

If we are getting picky they have NOT been brought by Cabcharge (not the lack of a capital C on the word charge), who they were brought by is a company called ComfortDelgroCabcharge, which is a consortium made up of the Singapore ComfortDelGro group and Cabcharge, the Australian Taxi payment company.

ComfortDelGro is one the worlds largest public transport groups, they operate taxi, bus and train services in Singapore, and buses services in several other cities, including Metroline in London. In Sydney they and Cabcharge took over Hills Bus and Westbus, though recently lost some contracts out Penrith way, and in Newcastle Toronto and Sugar Valley buses (plus a few more).

There’s a grammatical error (or several) in nearly every thread on RiotACT! Don’t pick on The Big Q…

It was the proportion that bothered me. I think a majority on this thread have one (but possibly not a majority now that I’ve posted twice and you’ve posted once). Anyway, someone seems to live in Jerra and we all know that isn’t part of Qbn.

I am counting the misspelling and lack of apostrophe in Deane’s, even though they no longer officially exist, having been bought by CabCharge.

You must live in la la land. Time to get some reality. The reality is, Action runs at a loss and is paid for by the ACT ratepayers to service the ACT. Though yes some more isolated and less populated areas such as Oaks Estate, Tharwa, Uriarra Village, Hall etc miss out.

Now lets say Action could run over the border into NSW it is also going to make a loss like it does in Canberra. So who do you expect to pick up the cost, the NSW government or the ACT Government?

As for Qcity (Deans no longer exists and QCity is now owned by Cabcharge and the massive Singapore owned Delgro group) tickets being accepted on Action, again as you mention it will cost, but who do you suggest is going to pay, NSW or ACT? As for QCity prices they are so high because NSW does not subsidise QCity’s route buses (they do school runs which is the bulk of their business) so the cost is the real cost of providing the service.

The ideal solution is the NSW government should contract out their regional bus services, as they do for the metropolitan areas of Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong and Action gets said contract. Never going to happen of course and neither government gives a stuff about removing a small number of extra cars off the road to make it happen.

There’s no buses to Jerra on Sunday’s let alone for New Years… (Although if advertised they could potentially make a profit there)

My problem with QCity is more the cost. Petrol and Parking costs for where I am currently working is less than the cost of a return fare of Queanbeyan to Civic. Then I would also need to add another 20-25 minute walk on top of that. Whereas if I drive I save myself a couple of hours and a few dollars a day by driving. If I was paying $13 a day in parking it may be a different story, however at that point I would probably use Actions park and ride facilities.

Oakes Estate?

What about Oakes Estate?

Im only saying the above because its possible to get cheap transport if you get a limo (hire car company) and if there are a few friends you can spread the cost its bloody convenient.

Good luck getting a cab. Do what we do in Singapore hire the cab for the whole night he waits out side the pubs and restaurants when ever we need him hes right there haha. Its cheaper then you think to.Ive done that in Sydney a few times to. In London I get a driver same guy I use all the time and its way cheaper then a black cab and the car is an S500

Catch a cab…

Sucks to live in Queanbeyan eh? What else is new.

Oakes Estate?

Called and spoke with operators at both Action and Deans. Action doesn’t service Queanbeyan/Jerra and Deans last bus leaves Civic at 7pm (9pm bus has been cancelled).

ACTION (ACT Internal Omnibus Network) don’t run buses outside of the ACT, so that wouldn’t happen anyway.

QCity (nee Deanes) don’t run much of a bus network anyway – it’s only at all useful for people wanting to go from Civic or Woden to Quangers central, with some additional feeder routes on weekdays.

The reason? No one takes public transport seriously around the ACT region, and if you live in NSW, the state government provides next to zero subsidy for buses, so the service is very poor.

There’s no late night service to Queanbeyan at any time, on any day… unless you can convince the rest of Queanbeyan to take the bus more than once every six years, that’s the way it will stay.
