Hi folks

I’m looking to start up a mixed social/non-contact lacrosse game for new and experienced players using mini lacrosse gear. See below for details.

If anyone is interested, please comment below or e-mail me at canberralacrosse@gmail.com

Cheers

Jash

FAQ

Why mini lacrosse gear?

Because @ $25 per stick it is cheap for people new to the game and better than using Sofcrosse/McWhip-it gear for people who have played before. The balls are also softer, so it limits the chance of injury.

Why non-contact?

It is better for a range of ages and skills, and makes sense for a mixed game.

Venue

Honestly, I don’t know yet. It would depend on the level of interest and the location of the majority of interested people.

Suggested rules

These are based on modcrosse rules, which work well for mixed and junior games.

Non-contact – This means NO contact with stick OR body

Holding the ball – Four (4) second carry limit before passing

Scoring – Three consecutive passes before being able to take a shot.

Teams – This will depend on the level of interest, but I’m thinking of a maximum of four players plus a goalkeeper on the field

Duration – 2 x 10 minute halves, or possibly 4 x 5 minute quarters to allow for rotation through the goalie position.

Playing Area – On any court, approximately the size of a basketball court. Indoor would be preferable.

Goals – Small mini-stick goals will be used (approx 90cm x 90cm)

Hi Jash

A group of people have formed a lacrosse club in Canberra this year!

We are currently running an indoor program run on the modcrosse rules you have listed above, and are organising the occasional weekend outdoor catch up, but we also have plans to put together field lacrosse teams to take interstate, and also receive teams as well! We have already sent a women’s team to Sydney … and hope that this is just the beginning!

You can find us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/groups/canberralacrosse

Hope to hear from you!

Havent been able to find a club in the ACT for Lacrosse, but if you’re after something similar and certainly niche, come and try Broomball! (actbroomball.org.au)
