Ladybirds spotted

I took the following photo today on the very top of Mt. Ainslie.

Ladybird swarm

A ladybird riot! A single photo does not do justice to the huge numbers that were clustered around the pole and flying around. I had to brush literally dozens off myself and camera when I retreated down the stairs after taking the shot.

Does anyone know why they’d congregate at the very top of the mountain? Nothing to eat there…

………..it has begun

Happened a few years ago as well. I was finding the little buggers in my car and bag for weeks.
Still might go snap some photos laters.

They were still there yesterday afternoon. After a short stop there I was still finding them on my clothing an hour later!
I tried to create an image to show how many are on the tower.

I used to work on mobile phone towers and midsummer 2 years ago found a shipping container style hut at Wereboldera [Tumut]filled with tens if not hundreds of thousands of them, inside the meterbox, the air conditioning, on walls and floors! As for reason why they are up there, what happens when you put one on your hand? It goes up of course. Maybe looking for cooler climate? Great opportunity to get some cheap pest prevention for your roses though.

Ooh, I remember seeing them swarming like that at an open day at Mount Stromlo many years ago.

Postalgeek: Yes the pun was intended.

enrique: What part of “top of Mt. Ainslie” was hard to understand?

If you have tomato plants, bring a few home. Ladybirds love to eat aphids.

Is that the top of Mt. Taylor by any chance? I recall we used to find heaps of ladybirds and monarch butterflies up there in summer…

Don’t know why’d they congregate at that particular spot. What an astonishing photo.

Ah ha – so the ACT Govt’s “Come live in Canberra” scheme really does work.

Trying to grab a good spot to watch the fireworks tonite??

All ladybirds are spotted. Duh 😉

Thanks OpenYourMind… the compliment was unexpected. The other ratbag comments were more typical 🙂

Nice work with the photos Patrick! As well as the Ladybirds, there’s some other really good shots in that gallery.

Send them my may – that many ladybirds in my vege patch would be great.

Pestilence… It was only a matter of time.

Clearly Satan’s emissaries. Call Danny Nalliah – he’ll soon get Jesus to cast them into the eternal fires.

Prayer group to cast out satanic influences from Canberra?

For one, I welcome our Ladybird overlords.

Looking forward to being under them.

Drawn in by the satanic influences to do Satan’s bidding. They’re evil little buggers Ladybirds.
