Lake George to get wind farm?

By Thumper - 28 April 2006 4

Apparently a $220 million development consisting of 63 wind turbines has been given the green light at lake George and will become Australia’s biggest wind farm.

Now I am all for renewable or alternative sources of energy but one has to wonder what the boys in Macquarie street are thinking about when they are selling off the Snowy hydro scheme at the same time. And whereas hydro works, wind farming has yet to have proven that it is a true alternative.

As well, Lake George, as windy as it is, can also be incredibly still for long periods of time, especially in summers and Autumns.

If one were to built I would suspect that it would be better placed in the Yass region, given that it is the windiest place in NSW.

What’s Your opinion?

Yeah, those flying sheep grazing on the shores might become extinct, too…
