Lake Ginninderra to be increased in size?

Thumper 1 April 2010 22

No links as yet I’m afraid, however, I heard a couple of radio interviews with someone claiming to be from some part of government planning and they put forward the idea that they could increase the size of lake Ginninderra all the way to Dunlop and West Macgregor by removing the dam wall, creating a new dam wall somewhere behind Dunlop and letting it flood, thus creating a wonderful wildlife corridor and tourist attraction. There was also some talk of using the increased lake space as a water ferry sort of service to get to Belconnen mall from the outer west belconnen suburbs.

An interesting concept. Has anyone heard further on this proposal?

Flooding Dunlop, Charnwood and Macgregor sounds like a good idea to me

I would vote for it only if it would flood Charnwood. The eighth natural wonder of the world. A hole above ground!

Great idea! Adding clean(er) water to it would dilute the horrors

A former colleague who did semi-regular contract diving for the AFP told us once that when diving in Lake Burley Griffin he was unable to see his diving watch when it was an inch from his goggles and he had shined his diving torch on it from a similar distance. I believe this can be summed up as “YARGH!”

The part that worries me is that the lake will flood a substantial length of existing cycle-ways, necessitating a increase in on-road cycle-paths.

Thanks P1, I was hoping someone had some links to prove that it wasn’t a hoax.

Too much work. Belconnen has too many hills. Much easier to just flood the entire Tuggeranong Valley and sell the submerged Hyperdome as a world class Dive site.

And this is just what we expect from non-Tuggweigans.

A Map of the Project clearly shows how it will benefit a large segment of the Belconnon community.

The introduction of water buses servicing routes from Kippax to Charnwood and Belconnen mall will offer a much needed invigoration to ACTION.

The creation of water front residential properties would instantly increase the value of many residences previously considered the Charny slums.

The possible options for new public artwork sites are almost limitless, the Chief Ministers has been quoted as saying.

Flood belconnen – the place is a tip and this might help remove the smell.
