The NCA is advising that pretty much all of Lake Burley Griffin is completely closed.

The National Capital Authority (NCA) has issued a High Alert Level for bacteria in Lake Burley Griffin.

The following areas of Lake Burley Griffin are currently closed to primary contact recreation:

— East Basin
— Central Basin
— West Basin
— West Lake
— Tarcoola Reach
— Yarramundi Reach

Primary contact recreation means recreation that involves whole-body water contact or submersion of the head. Examples include swimming, diving and windsurfing.

Will it be open again this summer?

I’m guessing the Googong overflow into the Queanbeyan River will help see the first really good flush of the lake for a long time. Starting now – ABC is reporting Googong is now full.

Followed quickly by the second really good flushing of the lake…

Maybe if they stopped pumping turds into the water upstream from it we wouldnt have this problem……..?

As as a statistician back in the 70’s I was offended when we had two “one hundred year” floods in ten years. Forty years of drought later, I appreciated the term “average” (or for the less kind “mean”)
Climate change is about the long term folks, your life is lived in the short term (ie wots happening this weekend)

It’s a cover up, folks! Obviously they are actually concerned that the LBG monster (“Griffie”) is hungry. Keep your arms and legs out of the water lest they be nibbled!

and don’t kayak upside down in in lbg, either…

Plus, all the fuel, oil, paint etc that is leaked/dumped all across the territory gets flushed into lakes during big dumps of rain. Not nice to swim in.

Queanbeyan just making a “convenience” of Canberra again, or are corpses floating out of the Queanbeyan cemetery as per last time. International headlines are in the offing.

This is to help build their secret underground tunnel system.

It’s all adding up people.

A little ‘accident’ at the Scriviner Dam will do the job.

So it’s your fault!!

Where the fsck is the pollution coming from?

Well, the water running off my neighbour’s yard & running down the pathway was an “interesting” colour. Plus whatever crap is lying around on the roads gets dumped into the stormwater drain.

Other than the risk of disease, what shall be the punishment for offenders?

Isn’t that enough?

In a lot of the older suburbs (which also happen to be the ones around the lake) the sewer and storm-water pipes were laid in the same trench. They’re old terracotta or concrete pipes. There’s a reasonable amount of cross over in terms of what they transport.

Other than the risk of disease, what shall be the punishment for offenders?

Maybe they are going to seal it up and use it for car-parking?

Seal it? The lake is man-made.
A little ‘accident’ at the Scriviner Dam will do the job.

Seriously though,
I thought all this rain and large volumes of run-offs into the lake would ‘clean’ it up…?

exposure to contaminated waters is enteric illnesses, such as self-limiting gastroenteritis. which can result in acute diarrhea.

Ooooh…. Bugger….

it has something to do large levels of bacteria.
It happens to all river/lake sytems after heavy rain

Apparently the bacteria is called “enterracocci”.

Tee hee hee! P)

Where the fsck is the pollution coming from?

Maybe they are going to seal it up and use it for car-parking? Or build more houses/flats/units/boxes/shanties on it?
