Lake Tuggeranong Bike/Walking Path to get cut?

It looks like they are about to close the gate and fence off the Lake Tuggeranong bike/walking path near Reed St South for development.

They have already placed the mesh fences around the area and the bike path passes right through the side of it.

I hope they don’t cut the path and force walkers/cyclists/residents/kids some other way esp. across a road.

The kids and I enjoy our ride around the lake.

An update. I had a ride around the lake at dusk (without the kids) and can say that the smooth bitumen bike/walking track from the walking bridge to Reed St South is now lined with mesh fence panels. It sure looks like that walkers/cyclists/residents/kids won’t have to take the Soward Way bridge, jump gutters and dodge traffic on Reed St North to get back to the bike/walking track 🙂 The only gripe I have is that someone swung several of the mesh panels across the bike track and it was only by chance that I noticed them in the dark and managed to avoid a collision. It’s not something I was expecting and they don’t light up very well with the bike light. In all I shifted three panels off the track. Very dangerous I must say. Someone could get hurt. Beware cyclists!

Complain to all the MLA’s for Brindabella.
And the Tuggeranong community council .
It’s a high traffic route used by families for exercise. I thought that the government was trying to increase physical activity in the ACT not reduce it.
15 Months in a long time for inconvience. They should make adequete alternatives that doesn’t include roads.

They are also doing similar in Lawson. Putting the construction fence on the main path along Ginninderra Drive is irriating as there isn’t a path on the other side of the road.

Truly a moron.

You could just climb the fence, chuck your bikes over, keep riding, get you and your kids killed by construction equipment. Would that make you feel better?

Op sounds like that nimby who was complaining to various MLAs that rich Kingston foreshore inhabitants had cut off his cycle path along the LBG foreshore. Of course were he to ride around there now, he’d find they’ve reopened it with even better bike paths, just as they will when they’ve finished work on South Quay in about 15months. In the meantime the OP will just have to suffer the ignominy of cycling on the NE foreshore rather than the SW foreshore.

I went past there today. Looks like they’re putting a new path on the other side of the road (Bunnings side), so suggest you’re right and they’ll be closing off that other path. 🙁
