ESD have the happy news that after many months the algae threat in Lake Tuggeranong has been reduced to medium alert:
Due to extreme levels of blue-green algae Lake Tuggeranong had been closed for primary contact since November 30th 2012. The current medium blue-green algae alert means the Lake is now open for primary contact however warnings remain in place.
The community should continue to exercise caution in and around the lake. Swimming or allowing pets in the water is not advised.
Signage has been erected around the lake to remind the community of the risks of increased levels of blue-green algae.
At a medium warning level some susceptible individuals exposed to this water during recreation may experience symptoms such as skin/mucosa irritation, flu-like symptoms or gastrointestinal illness.
