Here’s a blow by blow comparison between Paprika in Belconnen and (old) Sammy’s Kitchen Laksa in Civic. For those who know the drill, a SK laksa for comparison purposes is a straight 10/10/10.

  • Taste (Flavour) = 9
  • Size = 10
  • Ingredients = 9
  • Decor/Cutlery = 8
  • Waiting Staff = 10
  • Cost = 10

Details

Paprika is just up the road from Magnet Mart in Belconnen. The interesting thing about this Laksa is that it is a sour laksa – once you try it you’ll know what I mean.

I found the ingredients, style and pretty much everything else comparable, but just not quite a Sammys Kitchen Laksa, which is not saying that it was bad, just not as good. If I’m up in Belconnen Area needing a Laksa fix, I’ll probably duck across the road to Can Tho, but I’d probably return to Paprika to try something else from the menu as they are going in a different direction with their dishes than other conventional Canberra Laksa venues.

8/10.

Before the inevitable comparisons to other venues start – here’s some background reading…

Still no mention of Dickson Noodle House, which has been serving laksa longer than most of you getabouts have been alive?

The original proprietor went on to establish the City Noodle house and the Tuggeranong Noodle House too!

And if you’re up that way, try Phat Bois up in “The Forum”, which is the highrise apartment complex sitting on top of St Leonards station up in Sydney.

I love laksa! For that reason, I make my own and know what goes into it. Still the best laksa in town IMHO (I still can’t get over the image once, down the coast, of dropping a fish ball and watching it bounce several times before rolling across the florr, leaving a trail of slime)

For the southsiders reading this, I recommend you try laksa from Charlies Sala Thai in Homeworld Tuggeranong, they by far make the best Laksa I’ve ever had.

Is the Ipoh Cafe [near the basketball courts] still open? They did an awesome traditional laksa [like they do in Ipoh, Malaysia]

Maelinar isnt llowed at the belco markets after an unsavoury turnip accident

What about Belconnen Market Laksa? Sorry if this has been mentioned not sure of the name of café
