Land Sale - Why the Haste?

In a move which will only raise the temperature in the ongoing Data Centre debate, the ACT Gov are auctioning one of the more suitable alternate blocks that have been identified.

Block 20, Section 23, Hume, a 12 hectare block opposite Gull but towards Mugga Lane, is listed for auction on the 8th of August.

This will of course neatly forestall any potential move of the Data Centre from its current disputed site to one more reasonable.

Have the powers that be totally lost any political acumen?

And doesn’t August 8 coincide with the opening of a fairly newsworthy event somewhere to the north of us?

Guess the RA isn’t mainstream enough for the CT and Ms Doherty.

Todays CT item on this subject is claimed to be an ‘exclusive’ in the paper, but not on the website.

I guess the CT are unable to access this site.

Northsiders, I suggest you should not be too complacent about the data centre –
If the Tuggeranong data centre proposal goes through, be sure ACTEW will progress to the next one planned – in MacGregor.

I think it’s fishy.

Why suddenly put up one of the alternative data centre sites now?

Stubborness is one of Jon Stanhope’s big failings. Once he decides to do something it seems like nothing will stop him, no matter what goes wrong. EG – Persisting with his arboretum mid-drought.

My point is about the process prior to it being put up for sale, not the time between advertisement and the actual auction.

And anyway, how long should they advertise it before it’s auctioned?

I’m not all that concerned about the data centre, although I do think it’s being wrongly located. My interest is spiked by the apparent readiness of a Gov on the nose to do what it takes to ensure alternatives are closed off ASAP, and certainly before the election.

Pig-headed is a discription which springs to mind when viewing the Gov’s actions.

I seriously doubt that there has been any “haste” here. The planning for auctions such as this takes ages through the LDA and ACT buracracy.

I was alluding to the probability that the auction result would be coincidentally buried in the media coverage of the Olympic Games opening.
