The energetic backbencher Chris Bourke has announced the winners of the Landcare and Parkcare awards for the ACT.

“At the last count in the ACT we had more than 33 Landcare and Parkcare groups helping to preserve our rural and bush lands, urban parks and Canberra Nature Park. We had 200 Waterwatch volunteers monitoring more than169 sites every month and last year the Frogwatch program recorded frog calls at some 260 sites across the Territory.

“These groups and volunteers play a pivotal role in caring for the environment and building our knowledge on the beauty and natural wealth contained in our environment.”

A quick look at the nominees and winners list is a curious thing though.

Of the ten awards seven had but a single nominee.

That quibble aside congratulations to the winners:

    — French Black Truffles

    — Sts Peter and Pauls Primary School, Garran
