Andrew Barr has warned that this is the last weekend you can enjoy Commonwealth Park before Floriade takes it over.

The final stage in preparations for Floriade 2011 will be marked by the closure of Commonwealth Park on Monday 22 August 2011, while the Floriade team works around the clock to get event infrastructure into place for the festival, which runs from Saturday 17 September to Sunday 16 October.

Visitors will still be able to access Regatta Point, the National Capital Exhibition, the Canberra Business Event Centre and The Deck restaurant as normal but the construction work will affect access to Regatta Point’s paved car park. The fences will be locked by 6am on Monday 22 August so all cars must be moved out of the area before this time.

Minor bummer for those doing the CT Fun Run on the 11th.

What I don’t follow is why the lights on commonwealth ave were installed and the speed limit dropped a good month before the event is scheduled to start!

It’s no different to roadworks – maybe they don’t realize that by the time the event / purpose of the lower speed limit is actually taking place, people are already used to ignoring it.
