Lawson land release - when?

I have noted with interest the various snippets over the past couple of years about the development of a new suburb – Lawson. Over the past few months I have noticed a number of intersections along Ginninderra Dr and Baldwin Dr being upgraded to allow for access into the new suburb- complete with roads currently leading to nowhere.

I am rather interested interested in this land and would seriously look into snapping some up when it becomes available. Googling has only provided me with a planning report done in 2009 and a few random media releases over the past few years from the ACT Gvt saying the land release is ‘on track’…whatever that means.

Anyone know more about when the land will become available and how long the land release might continue for? I imagine it would be a staged process given the amount of land available.

Thanks

Unless you’re a property developer you’re probably out of luck with snapping up any land, until they have bought it and added some margin. Also, considering how much the further-out Crace (and North Weston) land is apparently going for, this Lawson land, which is in a pretty damn good location really, will cost a fortune!
Lastly, there’s the usual Canberra problem of building on Toxic waste:

Seriously, is there any infill development in Canberra that ISN’T built on a toxic waste dump?
Molonglo’s Weston pond, (new) Kingston foreshore, Lawson….. I didn’t know there was that much asbestos on Earth! Other cities must have paid the ACT Govt (Homer Simpson-style!) to let them dump their waste in Canberra! ‘The garbage man can!’ 😉

The problem with Lawson comes from the fact it was a naval transmission station so has a lot of PCB that was in the various transformers around the site.

Be interested in learning a date too.

They’re supposed to release 560 blocks in the coming financial year: http://www.laps.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/204916/2011-12_Published_Land_Release_Programs-_Residential.pdf

Call the LDA to ask for confirmation. They will also be able to tell you if this will be sold as multi-units or single title.
