Layon Drive Freeway Coming Soon

Yesterday Chief Minister Jon “Super Highway” Stanhope, and Federal heavy Maxine McKew kicked off the second stage of Layon Drive upgrades. This will see the current pitiful Lanyon Drive between Hume and Jerrabombera upgraded to a dual carriageway. Stanhope says: “”The upgrade is welcome news for the many drivers and cyclists that use Lanyon Drive, who can expect less peak hour delays at the intersections of Lanyon Drive and the Monaro Highway and better access to the Hume industrial area”.

Sure this is great work, but what about that terrible bottle neck they added up on the Monaro Highway? I’m referring to the set of lights at the AMC, which cause huge tailbacks during peak periods?!? Surely the convicts travelling to and from the AMC can spare 5 minutes to either cross the flow of traffic without lights, or turn around at Hume or Hindmarsh Drive?

The problem with Jerra is the queue to get out onto Lanyon drive. It’s not helped by the penile implants who insist on driving all the way around the roundabout from the right hand lane.

In that case, with any luck the relevant planning authoritah will have enough foresight to build a dedicated, no merge left turn lane for traffic turning left out of Jerra. Similar to the one that is/(used to be?) in place for NE bound Kings Ave traffic turning left onto Parkes Way.

Mr Genitals, if it makes you feel any better (and it does me), just yesterday the coppers were sitting on Lanyon Drive booking the penile implants who were driving all the way around the roundabout. And it’s not the first time I’ve seen them doing this.

Also apropos penile implants, I saw a copper booking a penile implant’s doofmobile in the loading zone at the Jerra shops recently, and when the said implant came back to his car, the copper told him he was booking him for being lazy. So true, empty car parks were only 20 metres away. It just does make you feel better, somehow.

It’s about time they started this. The previous Liberal Government provided the funding for the road back around 2006, it’s just taken NSW about 3 years to get off their ass. But that just shows that they’re a bit more incompetent than the ACT Government who took only 2 years to do something, of course it was the cheap option that will need to be fixed later.

Lights = disruption = cheap

Flyover = flow = expensive

Simple really

People from Jerra will now get to queue in two lanes instead of one…I bet they’re excited.

yeah the road is not the bottleneck, but all the lights and lane merges along the monaro thats the real issue.

also, install one flyover with grade separated entry and exit for entry to hume and mugga lane combined from the monaro hwy and get rid of all the lights at hume.

A flyover for monaro hwy and lanyon drive intersection is needed too

Yes I agree. Crazy place for lights, the helicopter base doesn’t need them, so why the ACM.
Even a roundabout would have been better
