ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr was out early this morning to cast his vote at North Ainslie Primary School, baby nephew in tow, choosing an egg and bacon roll over the traditional democracy sausage afterwards.

“At least one vote,” the Labor Leader quipped to the hordes of cameras on hand as he placed his paper in the ballot box.

Greens Leader Shane Rattenbury and Opposition Leader Jeremy Hanson did their freedom snags duty, though: Mr Rattenbury before he voted at Ainslie Primary and Mr Hanson afterwards, at St Jude’s Primary School in his home suburb of Holder.

Mr Barr arrived on foot, holding hands with his partner Anthony as he walked into the school grounds. Accompanying them were Mr Barr’s brother Ian and his family as well their parents.

Mr Rattenbury voted with his fellow Greens candidates for Kurrajong, Rebecca Vassarotti and Jill Thomsen, before chatting with voters and buying some goodies from the cake stall.

The Greens Leader apologized to electoral staff about the several journalists and camera crews that followed him through the polling booth.

“Creating a bit of a circus here, sorry about that,” he said.
Mr Barr skipped the cake stall, making a beeline instead for the coffee machine before addressing media outside the school.

Mr Hanson, who arrived with wife Fleur and son Robbie in their SUV, also bought some baked goods from the cake stall at St Jude’s before hoeing into a democracy sausage with gusto for the cameras.

He asked Fleur whether she had voted for him as they walked towards the ballot box.

“I did. I put you at number one,” she said.

“I’ve got two votes then,” he joked.

All three were in good spirits, buoyed by the stunning sunny weather in Canberra today.

Has Andrew Barr adopted a baby?
All the photos of him in the past week have been with him holding a baby (and there is nothing wrong with that).

Hi @dungfungus, no, the baby in the footage today is the son of Mr Barr’s brother Ian.

Thanks Charlotte.

It will be interesting to see how much the lad has grown in 4 years when we see the same photos again on the eve of the 2020 election.
