Katy Gallagher is letting us know that Leighton Contractors is going to build the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital for $97 million.

“I am very pleased to announce that Leighton Contractors, one of Australia’s leading contracting and project development groups, has been appointed as Project Manager to oversee the construction of what will be a world class facility for women, children and their families from Canberra and the surrounding region,” Ms Gallagher said.

The Minister joined senior clinicians, project officers, architects and representatives of Leighton Contractors for the important milestone and official signing of the contract near the site of the new $97 million hospital which will be built surrounding the existing Maternity building at the northern end of the Canberra Hospital campus.

It’s progress.

Gee, a women and childrens’ hospital costing $97million. Don’t hold your breath waiting for a men’s hospital.

Yeah, when am I gonna get my pap smear?

97 mill doesn’t really sound like a lot to me. Maybe if it is just an update then it will suffice.

The new Women’s and Children’s Hospital will replace the building that currently houses the maternity unit and birth centre. It’s more of an update of old facilities than providing a new hospital.

If you really want a men and children’s hospital you can have it as far as I’m concerned.

Oyster, the women and children’s hospital is to make way for more men at the non-genders specific hospitals. 😀

Wonder what suburb it will be in. Please don’t build it at the already congested no-parking anywhere Canberra Hospital.
