Following Senator Humphries’ ill-tempered claiming of electoral victory last Friday his defeated contender Lin Hatfield Dodds has now congratulated him.

Ms Hatfield Dodds congratulated the ACT’s two continuing Senators. “The campaign was hard fought right down to the wire. I would like to extend my warm congratulations to Senator Kate Lundy and Senator Gary Humphries on their re-election.”

Ms Hatfield Dodds concluded by thanking her campaign workers and supporters. “I thank every one of the hundreds of volunteers who worked on this campaign. This election has been an exciting one for the Greens, and we couldn’t have achieved this result without our volunteers.”

I know some of you were waiting for that.

Like Steven Fielding, she wouldn’t admit defeat even as it was staring her in the face.

where’s the comments from Gungahlin Al offering his usual support for the greens?

He’s on other posts as I type… Where is he?

I always think Landing Helicopter Dock.

I didn’t think they were allowed to concede defeat!

Finally! Now I can sleep well at night knowing that after several weeks have passed LHD is a big enough woman to admit defeat.

If I ever have any doubts about the way I voted all I have to do is remind myself of how gracious LHD was in conceding the election. Good Onya LHD!

It’ll be a cold day before I vote “green” again…

BTW is it just me or to the Greens on the banner at the top of their web page look more inbred than most groups?

Interesting points you raise.

Most greens are a bunch of failed kook animal liberationists who basically want to make themselves feel good by pretending to fix things by banning things.

Marine parks: prime example.

I’ve known LHD for a number of years, and she is a first rate human being. She could achieve a lot more than the current pack of politicksonadogsbacksideians given the chance.

I think she would do a better job than any politician currently representing the ACT.

Honestly – if V8 cars are soooooo incredibly evil why don’t we ban them?

Or is it ok for everyone else to drive them?

Thank goodness LHD did not achieve office… compulsory V8 land cruisers for the environment???

After seeing the greens behavior in the Legislative Asembly all I can say is that it is simpler to vote Labor direct, no need to go through an intermediary.

It’s just you.

well, with the greens not more dominant in parliament despite the significant swing towards them across the electorate, we can expect little action on anthropogenic induced global warming. so you may indeed wait a long time for a cold day again…

Just looked on AEC website and from a quick glance it looks as though each main candidate (sorry Darren!), in terms of their first preference below the line in addition to their party’s above the line vote, received roughly 22% (Lin), 33% (Gary) and 40% (Kate), leaving roughly 5% of first preferences left to be shared with other candidates and Democrat-above-the-line.

Kate is roughly 7% above quota, but even that wouldn’t have been enough to vote Lin over the line if ALL Labor votes went that way; even the Greens’ media release mentioned that some (presumably under the line) preferences went from Kate to Gary.

Yes, the Greens did well. But I still remember sitting in a uni lecture hearing her (as a guest lecturer) hijack our time to talk of how she was definitely going to win. That was also the time she expressed no sympathy for anyone who perished installing that troublesome insulation (she was on a govt board or something which recommended it).

Nonetheless, well done to all candidates.

Is an insincere congratulation really any better than an honest (but immature) rant?

From media release: “It does not get any closer than that.”

Um… it can, surely…?
