The ABC brings word that the member for motorists, the Liberal Alistair Coe, is positioning his party against point to point speed cameras:
Alistair Coe says there are still some unanswered questions about privacy, because unlike normal cameras they do not just record the details of people who speed.
“What will be happening with these point to point speed cameras is that they’ll be recording the data of every car that goes by at camera A and camera B – the car movements of many Canberrans will be recorded on a daily basis and I think there are some genuine privacy questions that need to be ironed out,” he said.
Meanwhile the police are planning an advertising blitz to guard against a continuation of recent misadventures.
UPDATE: The Libs have been in touch to point out that they don’t oppose the cameras, but want to iron out potential kinks in advance.
