Local Libs on women's issues

Whilst revelling in the updated-ness of the Canberra Liberals website, I stumbled upon this snippet:

Women’s Issues in the ACT: Work

Despite the fact that women in the ACT on average have better opportunities than other women nationally, many still have in common:
*problems with redundancy or casualisation of jobs
*the continuing adverse impact with divorce
*the impact of funding on carers, as women form by far the largest percentage of carers in the ACT
*the impact of childcare of [sic] funding cuts
*limits set on career advancement and further training of women in general.

Women have traditionally been the underdogs in workplace relations, and the fact of the matter is that they are going to be the first casualties when the IR legislation gets passed, in that they will no longer be as protected as they were in relation to time off work due to caring responsibilities, pregnancy etcetera.

So on one hand the Fed Liberals are shafting them, yet the Territory Liberals are attempting to nurture them.

It might be time for the little libs to check in on what the big libs are doing…

Labor has 20 women out of 60 total in the reps, liberals have 14 out of 74 and nationals 3 out of 12.

i wonder who has more female representatives in the house of reps ?

all this equality shite is so 70’s.

I think you’ll find the only difference lies in the fact that the feds have the luxury of being able to openly shaft whomever they please these days.

The territory libs are most probably adopting the old federal ploy – say you care now then shaft later.

Tried and true techniques.

hmmm I also imagine that the local Libs platform wouldn’t be much different than the rest of the ACT’s politicians.
