Liesl Chapman SC coming to town for the Eastman Inquiry

By johnboy - 26 September 2012 3

Justice and Community Safety have announced the South Australian silk Liesl Chapman SC is going to be the crucial counsel assisting the Board of Inquiry into the conviction of David Eastman for murder.

Ms Chapman, a South Australian barrister, brings a high level of experience to the case through her involvement as Senior Counsel in many complex and lengthy criminal trials, including murder.

In addition, Ms Chapman has been counsel assisting to an inquiry into Children in State Care in South Australia (the Mullighan Inquiry).

Ms Chapman is a member of the Australian and NZ Forensic Science Society since 2005, and has a particular interest and experience in forensic sciences and DNA evidence.

Totally read that as Lies! Chapman – great name for a lawyer

Would have been a good name for the police officer leading the Winchester investigation, too.

Liesl Chapman’s ” interest and experience in forensic sciences and DNA evidence” should come in handy…considering there is precisely zero of it in the case of Eastman’s conviction.

The AFP’s propaganda is worth a read:
http://www.afp.gov.au/about-the-afp/our-organisation/~/media/afp/pdf/w/winchester-the-end-of-innocence.ashx

Notably,
“The Winchester investigation was clearly a test of the AFP’s professionalism,” Commissioner Palmer said…
Yes, indeedy, it was. A test they failed with flying colours.

And the forensic “expert” the AFP chose to use? A bloke about whom the following was said by an inquest judge:
“”at best grossly negligent, and at worst deliberately deceptive. It is apparent that he has set out to prove Mr Parker fired the shots, and lied and misled to achieve that aim and protect himself from criticism for having done so.”

Geez, a bent forensic expert trying to help bent coppers put away a convenient nutter for the murder of one of their bent mates.

I’d say the AFP will at some stage realise they need to remove that link from their website and replace it with something truthful.
