Life after the Public Sector

According to the ABC, an increasing number of public servants in Canberra are moving into technology start-ups.

Local company Entry29 support start-ups and say the number of people attempting to join the industry has more than doubled. Board member Nick McNaughton said those with a public sector background often have the right industry knowledge for technology start-ups, meaning that for some – current redundancies could be a blessing in disguise.

Anyone out there with a ‘silver lining’ story to tell about life after redundancy?

Some versions of that in the private sector too. The various side effects go unnoticed. Until it’s too late, then it’s noticed. At which point, all efforts are made to make it appear it’s been noted and addressed, but it has, in fact, continued to go unnoticed, mostly covered with fancy doublespeak.

Or outsourced, which is often enough all the worse. As long as it’s all ok on paper for a while, that’s all anyone really buys and sells, right? Well, for a while.

Ok so I’m a bit cynical on this eve, fine… um…. Startups. Let me try again.

Startups, well, if they can pull it off, all power to them. Do it, Canberra needs that kind of thing, hope some good comes of it. PS please think twice before outsourcing too much too fast and then you’ll only end up with MORE local unemployed making MORE startups competing with your startup!…
