Lineup shuffle on The Beast

Not that they’d ever admit something was wrong, but the ABC has announced a pretty major rejig of their local on air lineup in 2013.

Angels and Ministers of Grace preserve us, there are men!

Changes in 2013 will see Alex Sloan and Genevieve Jacobs swap the Morning and Afternoon time slots; Louise Maher will take on the Local Field Reporter position, which will be re-introduced in 2013; Adam Shirley, who has worked on 7.30ACT and backfilled roles on 666, will move into the Drive presenter seat; Melanie Tait, who has presented and produced 666 programs, will move into the Sunday Brunch presenter seat; and the hugely popular Conversations with Richard Fidler will be on air at 11am each weekday with a unique one-hour in-depth interview series.

Frankly it’s been a mystery why they’ve not had Richard Fidler’s piece on before now as it’s a staple of ABC radio.

It would be nice to have 666 on FM so it didn’t cut out going through the tunnels at ANU and Parliament,

And I could listen to the cricket on my phone / Ipod, neither of which receive AM signal.

And listening to the cricket on the ABC is one of the glories of living in Australia (well, except for yesterday!). It should be on all channels.

Hear, hear!

But please 666, if you are reading, spare a thought for those of us who do like listening to 666 for local and national stories, but still need quality content over the holiday period. Please, no more presenters just killing time until they go back to being the producer. As nice as they are, it just often doesn’t work.

An please please please – now that you have digital radio, please set up a dedicated sports channel or ten so that the sports junkies can get their fix while the rest of us won’t have to put up with interminable bloody sport on 666 and News Radio.

If you have digital, 666 digital offers alternative programming to sport. Grandstand has the sports coverage. Its only analogue where they have to choose what to put on. Its a shame digital coverage can drop out though. Still I put a digital radio in my car and one on my desk at work. I like sport and 666 so i can choose 🙂

Yeah Angela Catterns was good, really really good.

That’s because she doesn’t cover every comment or sickening laugh with enough saccharine to give the world type 2 diabetes.

To be fair, that’s more a comment for the female presenters from 9am onwards.

Ross Solly I can’t comment on too much, for the simple fact he is unbearable!

Was driving down to the coast last Christmas and heard the producer (being the announcer) interviewing her mum about how they used to celebrate Christmas … I guess its hard getting guests on Christmas day.

If I wasn’t married, I would propose to Angela, just because I like the sound of her voice so much. What a woman!

And not very unattractive either…

Ahhhh yes, there is that aspect of her as well…:-)

Gentlemen, gentlemen – it grieves me to inform you that yon Ms Catterns is both partnered and, to use a seasonal analogy, bats for the other team…

Best thing they could do is sack Ross Solly. Absolutely abysmal on the best of days, but his work during the election was just embarrassing. The worst way to start your day.

Hahaha yeah, okay…..

Luckily there’s iPods and NPR podcasts so you can listen to a presenter who actually sounds like they passed high school.

So true. They moved NewsRadio to FM a few years ago, I assumed 666 would follow but it hasn’t. In hindsight if they were swap just one, 666 would have made more sense and they should do it.

At last! Once-Canberran Richard Fidler’s brilliant conversations will be broadcast out of Brisbane outside the graveyard slot on 666. I have been occasionally catching them at I think 2 am. Fidler’s show is one of the best programs on ABC Radio – intriguing subjects, interviewer who isn’t all about himself …

The netball is on commercial TV and I believe quite happy…

Swapping Louise Maher out, a mature woman with life experience and a good sense of humor, and Adam Shirley in, who struggles to come up with anything relevant, reeks of managers with rocks in their head. I really want Louise back on air when I drive home, and I prefer Alex, who is terrific, over Genevieve when I drive in to work. The only improvement 666 needs is getting rid of that boring cricket. It is a real punishment to loose out out on Alex and Louise for the 5 days of a cricket test and than another 5 days and another and so on. The same goes for TV, cricket and golf is good for couch potatos and socialites, show some real sports like judo, kayaking, athletics and the abc ratings will jump.

Agree that Jo Laverty is good value

Madam Cholet9:59 am 01 Dec 12

Angela warmed to the role just as her time was up! She needed to ditch the ‘Sydney’ part of her style.

Jo’s great and she’s noticeably getting better with the more time she’s spending on air. She won me over when a little while back she played PJ Harvey’s “Let England Shake” for the song quiz, in stark contrast to a lot of the dross that Solly plays.

No, no, these changes to my daily routine just won’t do.

Morgan said :

Angela Katterns was excellent standing in for Ross a few months back….

Really? Because I actually quite like Jo Laverty, and thought when AC was on a while ago she had quite a few awkward moments. But maybe i’m not old enough to fully appreciate the normal geezers (and their music) on 666!
Also, I quite like the way you tell us ‘her voice is sooo like Year 9’ by talking in teen-speak! Hahahaha!
Personally, I have to admire anyone who does something I couldn’t do. Me on radio = fail! Hahahaha!

Affirmative Action Man5:06 pm 30 Nov 12

What is it with Alex Sloan, Louise Maher & Genevieve Jacobs that they give a silly cackle & laugh after any inane comment that they make. Wake up its immature and annoying.

I hate the way Alex Sloan talks over her guests as if it is her opinions that we want to hear. Ross Solly has really come of age since he stopped trying to be a little terrier and hounding some of his guests. I liked Louise Maher. Pity! BUT PLEASE, get rid of the $%#$ing cricket! The most boring sport in the world, combined with radio is a mix made in hell !

So the Devil’s Radio is to have (gasp!) a *male* doing a shift. Quelle horreur! The ABC reminds me of that joke that was doing the rounds in the 1980s when all this affirmative action and quotas for women crap started: Person A: “Remember talent?” Person B: “What section does she work for?”

Yeah Angela Catterns was good, really really good.

Madam Cholet1:53 pm 30 Nov 12

Having ranted on RA about the merits of 666 presenters almost a year ago – i.e. the holiday period, I am glad of the slight shuffle.

I like Alex Sloane in the mornings, but have been thinking that she is a bit too comfortable in that spot, and that it’s all getting a bit too ‘Canberra Cultural’. Will the CM still do talk back?

I like Ross Solly – not too serious to wake up to. And glad they have moved Adam Shirley in and the other one out – was getting all a bit too talk back on the drive show – for example ‘call in and tell us how you feel about the Wiggles disbanding’, …answer….’I don’t give a feck’, except that some obviously do.

But please 666, if you are reading, spare a thought for those of us who do like listening to 666 for local and national stories, but still need quality content over the holiday period. Please, no more presenters just killing time until they go back to being the producer. As nice as they are, it just often doesn’t work.

Agree with the conversation hour – love it. Always try and catch this if I’m in a different city.
