Little progress on firewood

The Canberra Times has a piece about wood fired heating in Canberra.

Apparently the subsidies to switch to gas are falling into disuse and sales of firewood are on the rise.

On the bright side the very worst polluting heaters appear to have been the ones replaced.

Time for another ad campaign?

Yep, you can buy them.

The new ones are great, they only produce smoke for a couple of minutes when you are lighting them and when you put additional wood in.

Sooooo

Can you still buy new wood heaters or has nan banned it?

YES! Why oh why can’t they legally require people who have wood heaters to also have appropriate covered storage for the wood. The difference after rain if you have just one irresponsible inconsiderate home-owner nearby is very noticeable.

Even with low pollution wood heaters, the other issue is where the firewood comes from.

A catchy tune from Pete Lyon on the subject can be downloaded from here.

Now if only we could get people to wear jumpers instead of heating their houses to 22C in the middle of winter, we might be able to do something about the renewable, environmentally friendly pollution!

I just wish people would only burn DRY hardwood.

I can renew half the world’s supply of methane after baked beans and brown bread toast.

Careful, ACTEW might want to put their gas fired power station out the front of your place.

Timber is renewable, Methane is not.

I can renew half the world’s supply of methane after baked beans and brown bread toast. As a bonus,I also make a sound comparable to many modern bands.

And on the subject of firewood can anyone recommend a good firewood supplier?

Timber is renewable, Methane is not. The new ads would have to be extremely good and probably somewhat misleading too.
