Chief Minister Stanhope has announced he’s going to keep pouring resources into the Live In Canberra program trying to entice more people into a Canberra in the grip of a major housing crisis.
“The Live in Canberra team will work with the ACT Government’s Skilled and Business Migration Unit to attend an international migration expo in the Netherlands in February.
“The team will return to London and South Africa to promote the recently-announced State Migration Plan to eager migration agents and skilled workers already in the process of migrating to Australia.
“Live in Canberra seminars will be conducted in London in partnership with Downunder Tradies, which is facilitating skills assessments for trades people who wish to migrate to Australia.”
Building on a successful campaign in New Zealand in June 2010, Live in Canberra will return to Auckland in February 2011 to attend the Oz Jobs Expo which specifically promotes opportunities in Australia to skilled workers.
“The expo in Auckland is focused on attracting health professionals, in particular GPs, who will be invited to attend an exclusive Live in Canberra seminar where they will hear about the employment and lifestyle opportunities on offer in the capital,” Mr Stanhope said.
Within Australia, employment expos will be attended in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide with several Live in Canberra supporters expected to accompany Live in Canberra to these events as part of their recruitment initiatives.
One has to wonder how many people would come if the cost of housing was in any way sane?
But where’s the junket opportunities in that?
