Living at an invalid address?

I have been living at my current house in Bonner for over two years, however, none of the systems recognise the address.

I have this problem with Telstra, TPG and iiNet and do not know which ACT public office I should contact to get it fixed. I know the street numbers are allocated by LDA.

Or NBN more likely, I think Transact is gone and the old exchange is managed by NBN.co
The address needs to be on their system before ISP’s can do anything.

Another thing to check – you’re probably living in an area that’s serviced by Transact fibre? In which case your address might not exist in Telstra’s databases, if there’s no normal copper phone lines in your area. Again, whirlpool might be able to help you.

Bonner is indeed Transact (now NBN territory), so no Telstra lines. So my suggestion is to ring up NBN and ask if they can see you in their database.

That said what is your issue? Do you want a phone service connected? If so you will need an NBN service then you have two options.

You can have an anlogue service added to the NBN box, in which case you won’t need a separate NBN data service. Basically the phone carrier of your choice will sort it all out and your phone line will appear on the phone port on the NBN box. You then patch to your own analogue handset.

The other option is you can get a VoIP service, which will require an NBN data service. You will then need a VoIP handset, often provided as a bundle with the VoIP service.

Now all carriers will provide a service that terminates on the analogue port and this will normally be the most expensive option.

There was one time iiNet asked me “are you sure this address exists?”. I wanted to scream! Lol

I live in a corner block in Bonner and the troubles I have been receiving from IINET, ACTEW etc is so bad! You will have to go to the LDA website and go to the Bonner plan. Find the block and section of your house and if you live in a corner block find both addresses. This is the only way I could connect my utilities.

Though, even when your utilities have been connected, the troubles don’t stop! Actew rang me last Friday asking that they cannot find my gas connection. It was because my electricity and gas connections are in different addresses. I told them to put it in the same address but they refused… Now, I advised the lady, it’s their fault why they are confused! Lol

Is it a corner block?

I’ve lived on corner blocks in the past and that can provide some confusion as there are in effect two different street addresses for the same block. If I ever had any issues I’d just mention the other address and would usually get the reply “Oh yes, there you are!”

First step is to look at your place on ACTMapi ( http://www.actmapi.act.gov.au/ ) to confirm the block and section number and check what it has as your street address. From there ring Canberra Connect (13 22 81) and they should be able to direct you to the right area (it may take a couple of attempts though – don’t lose heart!).
